T hank you, George [Ewert] for bringing history to life at the Museum of Mobile. Thank you, Senator Sessions, Congressman Bonner, and Mayor Dow for all you do for families in Mobile. I'm so glad to be back. Mobile is one of my favorite cities as you might have guessed. Last year, I was here to celebrate the opening of the West Regional Branch of the Mobile Public Library. I enjoy Mobile so much I brought some friends to visit. Thanks to our Secretary of the Interior, Gale Norton, for your service to our country. Thanks also to John Nau for your leadership as Chairman of the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation.

A compelling reason to visit Birmingham, every parent should bring their children here to learn and reflect; born of the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s, it is along the with the Memphis Civil Rights Museum, the best museum of its kind; before entering take a moment to appreciate the Civil Rights Movement contributions of Rev Fred Shuttlesworth http://www.bcri.org 2. Kelly Ingram Park Pace Freedom Walk in the park slowly to digest the gravity, sacrifices and triumph as Civil Rights Movement theory met harsh reality at this National Historic site;; bronzed sculptures of police attacking civil rights protesters with a Billy-club, attacking police dogs, children jailed for protesting, three ministers praying for justice capture a truthful snapshot of the madness of Jim Crow in the 1960s it sends a visceral reminder to generations to come that America must never return to those aweful days; a statue of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and four paths along Freedom Walk converge towards a center that features a circular inscription with calming words of hope; bounded by 16th Street, North to 17th Street, North and Fifth Ave, North to Sixth Ave, North 3. How people of different races get along. The concept may be extended to people of different nationalities or ethnic backgrounds. racial segregation
Forced separation of members of one race from another, or others. Members of the isolated race are deemed inferior solely on the basis of their race. They may be denied access to jobs, housing, government services, and the right to vote. Segregation is the opposite of racial integration, where race is considered unimportant and people of different races mix freely. U.S. Supreme Court

Bob Cashner at the University of New Orleans reports that he has funding for a study of the nekton of Lake Pontchartrain estuary, which began in 1996 and will continue at least through the Summer of 1998. Thanks to the generous assistance of Bruce Thompson (LSU) and Hank Bart (Tulane), Bob has more than 2,000 collections over a 45 year period from earlier intensive surveys on Lake Pontchartrain. Julian Humphries is managing this data-base. Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your High School History Textbook Got Wrong is in its 22nd printing and continues to draw media attention and strong bookstore sales. It demonstrates how Americans get a distorted understanding of their past in their high school years. Unfortunately, when they leave school, their miseducation continues. Chattanooga, Tenn. With the culmination of the 21st Century Waterfront Project, a $120 million revitalization of downtown Chattanooga, you couldn't ask for a better time to rediscover the city. In fact, you might be there for some of the celebrations and grand openings: April 29, the Tennessee Aquarium; April 30 the Chattanooga Pier; May 7-8 for the Four Bridges Art Festival; May 13 for The Passage, a new pedestrian link between downtown and the river; and May 14 for the Grand Finale with a gathering of antique and classic wooden boats, hot air balloons, a 4,000-foot animated textile children's playground, kite shows and demonstrations, and performances from groups including the Chattanooga Boys' Choir. For your adventure, begin at the Tennessee Riverpark's Ross's Landing Plaza, which serves as the setting for the Chattanooga's Visitors Center and the Tennessee Aquarium. You'll see the 60,000-square-foot addition that added 650,000 gallons of saltwater exhibits to what is currently the world's largest freshwater aquarium. Explore colorful reef fish in The Undersea Cavern, journey to a lush tropical beach where you can touch bamboo sharks and stingrays, and visit other galleries that showcase squid, crabs, jellyfish and butterflies.
