This bibliography emphasizes the reference tools in the John C. Pace Library that are concerned with the history of cartography and that help the researcher to locate and identify a particular map. The atlases presented in this bibliography may be found, along with hundreds of other contemporary atlases, in the atlas collection at the end of the Government Documents section on the first floor. Contemporary sheet maps are shelved in map cases in the Reference Department as well as in the map room in the basement. Antiquarian map reproductions may be found in the Special Collections Department

Lesson Plans and Classroom Activities about Alabama Home State by State Lesson Plans - Alabama Lesson Plans Alaska Lesson Plans Arizona Lesson Plans Arkansas Lesson Plans ... Wyoming Lesson Plans Please note that with regard to lesson plans dealing with anthropology, archaeology, indigenous people, ancient civilizations, history, etc, there may be some cross-over and blurring of lines between the topics. For example, a lesson plan dealing with archaeology is automatically dealing with an anthropological subject. A lesson plan dealing with indigenous people is also automatically dealing with anthropology and any of them may, or may not, be dealing with history or ancient civilizations. While every attempt will be made to keep the topic lines as 'clean' as possible, be aware this may not always be possible. Appropriate grade or age levels are included with the lesson plans. The number of lesson plans available online for this topic is enormous. This site can not and does not index all lesson resources. That would be impossible, as sites appear and disappear with astonishing rapidity. The following provides some idea of what is available and will hopefully be a good starting point. (an index of large maps kept in the map case in the Reference Area) The Blume Library's maps come from a variety of sources, but most are from either the U.S. Government (primarily the Central Intelligence Agency) or the National Geographic Society. Maps can be found in many different sizes, from large maps suitable for classroom use, to standard page size, useful for copying and inclusion in papers. Older editions (some from the early 1900's) of some maps are kept for historical purposes. Old maps are often the best place to look for information such as changing country names, political changes resulting from wars, and so forth. The two main locations for maps in the Library are: Map File Case (located on west wall of main floor, next to the atlas stands; it holds large loose maps) In the Map File Case, you may find maps by browsing in the case, or by searching for a particular area in the Map Catalog . The maps in the case are arranged, for the most part, by continents. The Map File numbers found in the Map Catalog consist of three parts: the first two refer to groups of folders within the Map File Case, and the final number is a unique sequential number for the particular map. For more detailed information on the arrangement of maps in the case, consult the guide sheets inside the top of the case, or this detailed explanation of map arrangement.

The North American Map Collection is an ongoing cooperative project of archives, libaries and museums in Florida to digitize and provide online access to maps of contemporary and historic North America, dating from 1564 through the present. While many of these maps were originally published as maps independent of any other publication, some were published with atlases, books, government documents, shipping and railroad schedules, land promotions, etc. Maps in this collection are largely regional maps. But, the Collection also includes national, state, municipal, county and parish maps. These maps represent only a small part of the wealth of historical and archival treasures held by the contributing archives, libraries, and museums. Users should note the source of the maps they use and should contact the holding libraries or archives directly for more information. The Collection is uneven in representation of specific areas as contributions to the Collection reflect the interests of the contributing institutions. Maps in the
