is also a tribute to their presence and named for another local chief. This creek runs through the south end of the city and at last survey was just one foot too short to be called a river. Another local attraction associated with the Muskogee and Conchardee is the Sleeping Giant. Although best seen from atop Mt. Cheaha, the Sleeping Giant can be seen in the distance on Alabama Highway 77 heading south out of Lincoln. The Sleeping Giant is really just a collection of foothills that, when seen from a distance, resemble a huge man sleeping on the horizon. There is, of course, a legend associated with the Sleeping Giant During the War of 1812, Andrew Jackson and his men camped at Fort Strother on the banks of the Coosa River near Ten Islands, just north of Lincoln. They arrived at the fort with no supplies and foraged for food over a wide area. The Lincoln area was noted by these men to have a good supply of fresh water and fertile land and many came back after the war was over to settle the area. Andrew Jackson also cut a trail through Lincoln on his way to Talladega for the Battle of Talladega. This battle took place on what is now known as Battle Street in the heart of Talladega. This battle was between the Red Sticks, a sect of the "Creeks" opposed to white control, and Andrew Jackson's men. Since then, the trail has been paved and is now known as Jackson Trace Road, part of it running parallel to the Talladega Super Speedway.

Term Paper #26585 Add to Cart (You can always remove it later) The Analysis of History
Examines quotations by historian Thomas Carlyle and philosopher Karl Marx regarding history and the study of history. 1,423 words ( approx. 5.7 pages ), 4 sources, MLA, Click here to show/hide Paper Summary
Abstract
Historians approach the subject of history from different perspectives and interpret their findings according to underlying beliefs, attitudes, methodologies and even ideologies. Whatever method is used is usually found to be adequate and most correct by the person using it, but not all methods are equal. This paper examines two quotations regarding history and the study of history to show different views of what history is and how it is to be analyzed - "The history of the world is but the biography of great men" (Scottish historian, Thomas Carlyle) and "The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggle" (German political philosopher, Karl Marx).
From the Paper:
"The kind of history envisioned by Carlyle would focus on individual leaders and their exploits as the subject matter of history and would define how history is studied. The lives of great men would be examined in detail, and the events of their lives would be attributed to their actions as warriors, statesmen, political leaders, and so on. History is organized around this idea when we talk of different regimes, as when we order British history according to the succession of kings and speak of different eras as Elizabethan, Victorian, Edwardian, and so on."

Titled "Individuals Active in Civil Disturbances," the volumes contain photos, addresses, arrest info, and other data about people the state considered subversive. For the most part, the individuals were involved with mainstream black groups, such as the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, the Congress of Racial Equality, and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (which would later become more radical). A minority of people listed were involved with openly communist organizations or with extreme right-wing groups, mainly the American Nazi Party. The long-lost publications turned up on an eBay auction but were comandeered by the Attorney General of Alabama. I immediately purchased photocopies of the books from the state archives.
