NCBDDD Home Autism Information Center About Autism CDC Activities ... ADDM Network Alabama Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) Project The Autism and Developmental Disorders Monitoring Network (ADDM Network). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is now funding researchers in many states, including Alabama, to develop programs to monitor the prevalence of autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) and other developmental disabilities. The goal of the ADDM Network is to provide comparable, population-based estimates of the prevalence rates of autism and related disorders in different sites over time. For more information, please see: www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/dd/ddautism.htm The Alabama Autism Surveillance Program (AASP) is a multiple-source investigation to determine and monitor the number of children born in 1994 who resided in Alabama in 2002, and who had a diagnosis of ASD, mental retardation (MR), and/or cerebral palsy (CP). This surveillance system will help establish, for the first time, an accurate count of the number of children in Alabama with these developmental disabilities. The investigators are members of the Department of Maternal and Child Health of the School of Public Health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The AASP is a joint undertaking with the CDC and other state partners, the Alabama State Department of Education, and many other agencies and organizations that serve children with ASDs and their families.

This is not intended to be legal advice and is distributed for information purposes only. Check for updates at your public library. Alabama does not recognize homeschooling as a separate legal option. Homeschoolers in Alabama must educate their children according to the provisions set forth in this legislation and therefore, most find "covering" or "umbrella" schools which will oversee their homeschooling programs and answer to the state. Parents with a teaching credentials may qualify as tutors for their own children. Rural or working children may also have an advantage.

Birmingham – Gov. Don Siegelman today announced that all of Alabama’s public schools are connected to the Internet, e-mailing the news to principals and superintendents around the state. Siegelman announced the success of his Smart Schools Internet connectivity initiative during a visit to Gresham Middle School in the Jefferson County school district, fulfilling his promise to complete the statewide initiative by 2003. “I committed to put the world’s knowledge at the fingertips of every child in every public school,” said Siegelman. “I now am happy to report that all school children, whether from rural or urban schools, have access to state-of-the-art technology through the Internet.
