Created entirely according to ancient Hindu architectural manuscripts known as the Shilpa-Shastras and meeting all the modern regulations of today, it was constructed in a mere 16 months starting from the day its first stone was laid. Limestone from Turkey and marble from Italy was shipped to India where it was hand-carved. More than 33,000 carved pieces were shipped from India to Houston to build such a beautiful Mandir. The Mandir opened to devotees, well-wishers, and visitors after the Pran Pratishtha ceremony performed by His Divine Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj on July 25, 2004.

Backpacker Tours A Romantic Getaway Arizona, United States By Norm Goldman Driving from the airport to Phoenix, we knew we were experiencing a city that was very much unlike many of the major metropolises in the USA or Canada. Our first clue was that everything seemed new to us, even the expressways with their unique architecture paying tribute to the city's Native American heritage. What was most impressive was its unique towering desert mountain skyline that was not hidden by huge skyscrapers. Yes, there were a few tall buildings around, but nothing to compare to those of New York, Boston, Atlanta, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Toronto or Montreal. And these were not obstructing the magnificent views of Squaw Peak, Camelback Mountain, the bulky South Mountains, or the McDowells. Nicknamed the "Valley of the Sun," and blessed with over 300 days of sunshine, Phoenix is set within a flat valley at an elevation of roughly 1,100 feet. With its unusual cacti, desert colors of reds, tans and brown, pink bougainvillea vines and greens, brown grove date palms, spiky Yuccas, and glorious sunsets on its mountains, it can probably boast of being one of the finest natural settings of any in the USA.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineer, Gulf Region District South BAGHDAD, Iraq, Dec. 16, 2004 Rumors have it that, in the past 10 years, Basrah International Airport opened only when VIPs were visiting the country, and people worked at the airport only on those occasions. But, in July 2005, Basrah International Airport will officially open for commercial air and passenger traffic. “The airport was never really functional,” said Nolan Smith, assistant area engineer for the Basrah office, Gulf Region South, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. “It was never formally opened to large commercial flights, primarily because of war. But now, it could open up to cargo flights in the very near future.” All systems have to be brought to international standards before any cargo or commercial planes can land, said Smith. Other projects, for which the Corps is not responsible, include providing fire engines and training firemen for the requisite fire station.

King Abdulaziz International Airport is an aviation facility located in Jeddah Saudi Arabia . It's IATA code is JED . Named after King Abdulaziz Al Saud , the airport is Saudi Arabia's largest air facility. Construction for the airport began in . It was finalized in . Finally, on May 31 , the airport opened for services. Because of Jeddah's closeness to Makkah , the airport stands for one feature in particular: The Hajj Terminal is to be used only during the Hajj season, and it caters to Makkah bound passengers only. Airlines that have used the Hajj terminal, apart from those airlines from Islamic countries, include Air France and World Airways , the latter from the United States The north terminal is used by the various international airlines that fly into this airport. The south terminal is reserved for Saudi Arabian Airlines flights only. A substantial part of that airline's international and domestic operations fly from King Abdulaziz International Airport's south terminal. The Hajj Terminal, the one used by Muslim pilgrims, is estimated to be, at five million square feet (465,000 m²), the world's largest air terminal. It sits over 100 acres (405,000 m²) of ground area, and it is known for its tent-shaped roof. Terminal 3's roof is not actually a tent, but a

However, despite the support of patriots and the cappuccino set, the 'City of Brotherly Love' has long been the butt of jokes by WC Fields and other laugh-a-minute types. When the insults finally soaked in - just in time for America's bicentennial in 1976 - the city began renovating. The soon-to-follow Rocky films sentimentalised Philly's tough-guy reputation, born in the Ben Franklin fraternity of rebellious Constitutionaries.

Today the old folks mingle with fashion designers, bikini models and Cuban ©migr©s, and the city that once had the highest murder rate in the US attracts millions of tourists. Greater Miami is a melting pot that would make America's founders swell with pride. Half of Miami's population is Hispanic, giving the city an international outlook. For the casual visitor this means a city peppered with the flavours of Latin American food, language, music, politics and spirit.

You can't get much further south in the US than Miami, so when it gets hot, it's searing; consequently winter is the peak season. The city bulges at this time: most of the US squeezes in while the rest of the country freezes their Fanny-Maes off. The 'in-between' months, especially August through to November, see a range of enticing festivals so reservations come in handy at this time. The Calle Ocho Festival in March especially draws the crowds.

An Historic Landmark of the Nation's Capital Serving the People Who Make History for More than 60 Years... Almost from the beginning of the English Colonial History of this continent, the crest of the National Airport site has been rich in historic significance. The Gravelly Point site has significance dating back to colonial days. Captain John Alexander built a mansion called "Abingdon" on the site in 1746. A descendent, Philip Alexander, donated most of the land on which the City of Alexandria was built, and it was so named in his honor. The mansion was purchased in 1778 by John Parke Custis, and was the birthplace of Eleanor "Nelly" Parke Custis, stepdaughter of President George Washington. Abingdon was destroyed by fire in 1930 and the ruins stabilized until 1998 when the Airports Authority preserved the site and housed artifacts found there in the Exhibit Hall, located in Terminal A. Airport facilities in Washington, D.C. had long been seriously inadequate early in the 20th Century. Hoover Field, located near the present site of the Pentagon, was the first major terminal to be developed in the Capital area, opening its doors in 1926. The following year, Washington Airport, another privately operated field, began service next door. In 1930, the economics of the Great Depression caused the two terminals to merge to form Washington-Hoover Airport. Bordered on the east by Highway One, with its accompanying high-tension electrical wires, and obstructed by a high smokestack on one approach and a dump nearby, the field was less than adequate. Incredibly, the airport's one runway was intersected by a busy vehicular street, Military Road, which had guards posted to flag down traffic during takeoffs and landings.

Hammerwood Park was conceived as a temple dedicated to Apollo as deity not only of the arts but also of hunting.
Apollo is represented upon the Coadeware plaque above the temple entrance into the Library playing a double pipe and wearing the skin of a wild beast freshly hunted. Latrobe also symbolised Apollo's presence at the house by styling the Paestumesque-proportioned columns with the plain shanks of those at the Temple of Apollo on the island of Delos.
Built for entertaining by Latrobe in 1792 the house comes to life best today when hosting concerts and dinners whilst retaining its primary function as a family home. On two afternoons a week in the summer visitors enjoy tours and cream teas. There are also two guest suites which can be a useful base for those using Gatwick Airport.

A TOUR OF HAMMERWOOD PARK
Built in 1792, contemporary with the French Revolution, the house was built to appear palacial but in fact is only about one-third of the size it looks. The effect is assisted by various subtle effects but principally the columns on the wings are half the size of those on the central block - so they look as though they are set back a huge distance. The columns on the temples are tapered to make them look taller than they really are. New: here's a set of colour photographs which we hope you will enjoy

AIRPORTS

By J.G. Ballard [The Observer 14/9/97] Airports and airfields have always held a special magic, gateways to the infinite possibilities that only the sky can offer. In 1946, when I first came to England, a dark and derelict shell of a country, I used to dream of the runways of Wake Island and Midway, stepping stones that would carry me back across the Pacific to the China of my childhood. At school in Cambridge, and later as a medical student at King's college, I would flee all that fossilised Gothic self-immersion and ride a borrowed motorcycle to the American airbases at Mildenhall and Lakenheath, happy to stare through the wire at the lines of silver bombers and transport planes. Airports then were places where America arrived to greet us, where the world of tomorrow touched down in Europe. Sadly, Britain faltered on the way to its own future, half-heartedly erecting a shabby urban limbo of under-serviced municipal towers and wind-swept shopping precincts. Together they provided the nostalgia- worshippers with all the ammunition needed to launch their postmodernist counter-attack. The pitched roof seemed to rule the Eighties, a vernacular dialect unable to distinguish a town hall from a supermarket or fire station, too many temples to tweeness that resemble offerings on the altar of Prince Charles's uneasy conscience.
