A look at the impressions Chicago's airfields have made in the movies
As the film industry incorporates more exotic locales, and relationships between people in different parts of the country or world, the need for movie friendly airports in which to shoot has never been greater. With the architectural style and grace of Chicago's O'Hare Airport, especially the Helmut Jahn designed Terminal One, O'Hare has become one of the most sought after airports to film in, in the world. "We shoot a lot of different airport scenes here," the Chicago Department of Aviation program director, Judith Hamill stated. "Not only do we shoot the Chicago scenes here, but directors have shot O'Hare to double for LaGuardia, San Francisco, Cleveland and even Paris." Generally speaking, O'Hare doubles for other airports for financial reasons. In 1989, director Chris Columbus and writer/producer John Hughes were on the north shore in Winnetka filming a movie called Home Alone , a feature that would later go on to gross nearly $300 million. Rickenbacker Industrial Park Rickenbacker Area Available Space Developers ... Success Stories Developers In the last few years the Southeast sub-market, centered around Rickenbacker, has been the dominant industrial development sub-market in Greater Columbus. In 1998, more than half of new industrial development taking place in Greater Columbus occurred in this area. In 1999, two-thirds of all industrial development in the marketplace occurred in this sub-market. In 2000, about three-fourths of the industrial growth in the entire region occurred in this area. Private developers have been a driving force behind the 11 million square feet of industrial space developed so far at Rickenbacker International Airport and FTZ #138, and they are pursuing plans for additional growth. Developers are also setting their sights on developing other areas in the 15,000-acre industrial sub-market at Rickenbacker, bounded by major roadways US-23, I-270 and US-33. Today, about 23 million square feet of space has been built in the area, yet only about half the land suitable for industrial activity is now in use or slated for development. The following is the most up-to-date list of industrial real estate developers doing business in the Rickenbacker area: Franklin Community Improvement Corporation (FCIC)

Most Expensive Homes In The Midwest 2004
    Betsy Schiffman
If you're looking to buy a billionaire's home with a millionaire's bank account, the Midwest is the place to buy.
Click here for the slide show.
When we looked for the top ten-priced properties that are publicly listed on the market in the Midwest region of the U.S.Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsinwe found that luxury estates are a relative bargain. For around $10 million, home buyers in the Midwest can buy a palatial mansion designed by a well-known architect, possibly even with land, formal gardens, outbuildings, swimming pool and lovely scenery. The same amount of money in New York would pay for a nice co-op apartment that may have a health club in the basement.
In fact, the Midwest is perhaps the most affordable mansion market in the country, with the price range of the top ten most expensive homes for sale coming in between $11 million and $25 million. While the prices may seem expensive, when you compare that to the Most Expensive Homes in the Northeast , where the homes were priced between $29.5 million and $75 million, it seems downright affordable.

    ST. Petersburg

St. Petersburg area was discovered and explored by Panfilo de Narvaez in 1528, 36 years after Columbus arrived in the Caribbean and 37 years before the founding of St. Augustine. Narvaez and 400 soldiers, probably the first Europeans in this area, came looking for gold and silver. Instead they found the Tocobagan Indians, an agricultural tribe that had occupied the peninsula for hundreds of years. The Spanish ransacked their huts, and pillaged their ceremonial mounds, but found no treasure. Fierce battles ensued and the Indians never forgot the white man's atrocities.
In 1875, General John Williams came down from Detroit and bought 2,500 acres of land on Tampa Bay. He envisioned a grand city with graceful parks and broad streets, the trademark of today’s St. Petersburg. Thirteen years later, Peter Demens, a noble Russian aristocrat, brought the Orange Belt Railway to St. Petersburg. On June 8, 1888 the first train arrived. It was Demens who named the city after his birthplace, St. Petersburg, Russia. In 1914 the rich history of spring training and Florida’s love affair with baseball began when the city’s former mayor, Al Lang, convinced Branch Rickey to move his St. Louis Browns to the Sunshine City for spring training.
The boom years in the 1920s brought notable architecture to St. Petersburg. The city’s architecture reflected a Mediterranean theme, however during the Depression, the real estate boom crashed. The city recovered during the 1940s, when it witnessed large growth because of World War II. It was home to the U.S. Coast Guard Station on Bayboro Harbor, a training base for troops plus The War Department later selected St. Petersburg as a major technical services training center for the Army Air Corps. After the war, many of the military men stationed here returned to live or visit as tourists. In the 1950s the population reached beyond 200,000. Today, St. Petersburg continues to lead the region in conservation and cultural affairs.
