Publications General information The new terminal Development: Within just a few years of going into operation, Munich Airport claimed its place among Europe's major air transport hubs and has been ranked 9th among Europe's top ten airports since 1998. In 1999 21.3 million passengers were counted. The latest projections call for this number to swell to 40 million by 2010. This enormous growth in passenger traffic has caused Munich Airport to reach its capacity limits much sooner than expected. The existing terminal has already been repeatedly expanded. To ensure that sufficient capacities are available to meet expected growth in passenger traffic, Munich Airport will need a second terminal in 2003 along with the airside and landside infrastructure to serve it. Location: Terminal 2 is being built to the east of the existing passenger area. The terminal's defining pier is aligned in a north-south direction. The design permits satellite facilities to be built, if necessary, that will be functionally dependent on Terminal 2. The two-level design will place arrivals and departures above one another on the land side, while the airside of the terminal will separate "Schengen" and "non-Schengen" flights - i.e. flights with and without passport checks. Terminal 2 will be linked to the Munich Airport Center (MAC), with the direct pedestrian route to the S-Bahn rail station leading through the MAC's roofed-in forum.

EADP led a team to study options, prioritizing, concept drawings, and first cost as well as life cycle/operations cost estimates for both airside and terminal functional areas. Recommended expansion included 8 new gates with a net increase of 6. Considered were airline parking and gate holding, ramp expansion, ticketing area, restrooms, user amenities and security stations. The study included impact on existing underground facilities and required electrical, HVAC, hydrant fueling systems to accommodate expansion. The firm was then hired by Milwaukee County to lead the concourse Gate Expansion project . Design, cost estimates and efficiency of expanded existing terminal and continued airport operations were compared with developing an entire new terminal. Expansion of the existing Concourse C was ultimately desired, and includes airside and landside architecture, interior design, engineering, hydrant fuel system expansion, environmental assessment, daylighting and coordination with FAA, and tenant airlines build-out. Books Berlin-Tempelhof/Liverpool-Speke/Paris-Le Bourget Années 30 Architecture des aéroports
Airport Architecture of the Thirties
Flughafenarchitektur der dreißiger Jahre
Paris, Éditions du patrimoine, 2000 The aeronautical revolution has completely altered traditional notions of speed, time and distance; it has changed the faces both of warfare and of holiday-making, and has been a major contributor to the globalisation of the economy. All over the planet, the skies are marked by vapour trails. Beneath them, this revolution in transport has generated some of the most striking and forbidden landscapes of our contemporary environment. It has also given rise to some of the most innovatory and costly architecture of the twentieth century. But this heritage is a fragile one. Its ancient monuments are at most eighty years old, but they not often seen as part of a common cultural heritage, and are often under threat. The publication takes a glossy paper look at the three historic airports of Berlin, Liverpool and Paris. A general introduction gives an overview of the origins of airport buildings during the inter-war years, the period when commercial aviation took off into sustained growth. Co-ordinated by Paul Smith and Bernard Toulier at the French Inventaire général (direction de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine), the contributions to this euro-book have been penned by specialists working in heritage bodies of the partner countries: English Heritage (Roger Bowdler, Bob Hawkins), Landesdenkmalamt Berlin (Gabi Dolff-Bonekämper), Direction régionale des Affaires culturelles, Ile-de-France (Christelle Inizan) and the Musée de l'Air et de l'Espace at Le Bourget (Bernard Rignault).

DOMINION MODERN Dominion Modern was established as an archive of 20th Century Canadian architecture and design. Our goal is to collect, catalogue, preserve and disseminate; but also to present, inform, engage and delight. DOMINION MODERN proposes to be a leading voice in advancing knowledge, promoting public understanding and widening thought and debate on the art of 20th century Canadian architecture and design, its history, theory, practice, and role in society today. We believe Toronto is the right place for a permanent gallery/archive of the 20th century Canadian architecture and industrial design. We propose DOMINION MODERN as a place not only to exhibit, but also to maintain and preserve these records and to make then available to the public. Greater Moncton Airport Terminal wins architecture award (05/03/22)
NB 326 March 22, 2005 FREDERICTON (CNB) - The designers of the Greater Moncton Airport Terminal have been honoured with the inaugural Lieutenant Governor's Award of Excellence in Architecture "The new terminal building is a symbol of progress, without forgetting the past," Chiasson said. "It stands for strength, success, and new frontiers, just as it is welcoming, comforting and comfortable. It is a modern monument which keeps our faith, our perseverance and our determination in mind." Nearly 30 different architectural projects from throughout New Brunswick were submitted for consideration by an independent jury. The jurists found the Greater Moncton Airport Terminal to be esthetically pleasing, challenging and yet in keeping with the philosophies of good architecture. The award was accepted by Dianne VanDommelen, Jeff VanDonnelen and Pierre Gallant of Architects Four Ltd. The award was created by Chiasson and the Architects Association of New Brunswick in October 2004. Nominations for the first award were announced in January. All of the nominations will remain on public display at Old Government House in Fredericton until mid-May. The award itself was created by New Brunswick artist Peter Powning, and combines common building materials including glass, stone, wood and metal. The award will remain on permanent display at Old Government House.
