181. Military Women In Vietnam
In Vietnam, Army, Navy and air force Nurses and Medical Specialists numbered over six thousand. This page discusses all women who served in Vietnam from 1964 to 1973.

Vietnam Southeast Asia
Over 58,000 Americans killed, 200,000 wounded and Women Were There! After one of the most futile conflicts in the history of war, scorned by flag burners and shunned by citizens, G.I's returned to find respect for our troops hitting an all time low. The reaction of the American people to our military was despicable. It has taken years for many servicemen and women to get over it- and some have not.
What is truly unconscionable in the annals of American military history is the fact that little or no data exists on the women who served and, yes, were injured or killed, in Southeast Asia during the Viet Nam era.
Accurate records on how many women were there, what decorations they earned, where they served - and most important - what after effects they have suffered - and continue to suffer - are nonexistent.
However from anecdotal reports, letters, from books by those who were there, from research papers by military historians, and from the excellent text "Women in the Military - An Unfinished Revolution", by Major General Jeanne Holm, USAF (Ret), we can glean the following overview.
Over five hundred WACs were stationed in Vietnam.

Air force takes battle to mozzies
Dhaka's swamps provide ideal breeding grounds for mosquitoes Story Tools DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP) Officials in Bangladesh are calling in the air force to combat a flying menace: mosquitoes that are spreading disease and causing sleepless nights for many in the capital, news reports said. Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has ordered air force helicopters to start spraying insecticides despite concerns that the chemicals could harm plants and useful insects, the Daily Star and Janakantha newspapers reported. "I keep myself inside a net to ward off the biting mosquitoes even during the day," said Taherun Khatoon, an ailing 70-year-old woman. "Never before in my life I've suffered so much from mosquitoes." Dhaka, the overcrowded city of 10 million people, is riddled with open gutters and swamps ideal breeding grounds for mosquitoes that spread malaria, dengue and other illnesses. Mosquito-born diseases killed 30 people and afflicted another 2,000 in Dhaka last year. No casualties have been reported so far this year.

http://www.aafha.org
They were the darkest days of the Second World War: American air crews fought their way to and from heavily defended targets deep inside Fortress Europe and the far reaches of the Pacific. These young men and women fought valiantly and many did not return, but they changed the direction of a terrible war, insuring victory and securing the freedom which we enjoy today.
Formed in 1993, the Army Air Forces Historical Association®, based in northern New Jersey, is an historical and educational non-profit organization. The association participates in air shows, historical retrospect's, educational programs and seminars providing static displays of World War II Army Air Forces memorabilia. These artifacts portray what service life was like when the world was at war and fathers, sons and daughters trained and served in many distant locations.
Some of our most frequently asked questions: I want to find more info about my family member who served in the Army Air Forces in WWII. Where do I for to look for information?

Introduction
This site is intended to provide a resource for information on the European Axis and neutral Air Forces of the Second World War. I hope to be able to dispel some of the commonly held myths about the Luftwaffe and the other Axis Air Forces. I do not intend to go into the technical details of the individual aircraft used unless it's the subject of an essay. As an aide to researchers I intend to annotate my sources for each item, but viewers should be aware that I'm working primarily from secondary sources and my command of German isn't the greatest. I've defined the Second World War era as the period 1939-1945, which excludes the Spanish Civil War and the Sino-Japanese War. Ideally I'd like to list each unit by aircraft type, strength, and location for every day of the Second World War, as C.G. Jefford, Ray Sturtivant, Philip Moyes, and John Rawlings have done for the British, but I don't believe that such is possible because of the extensive destruction of documents. Viewers unfamiliar with this topic are advised to investigate the pages covering abbreviations, definitions and organization and structure of these Air Forces before venturing further into the depths. If anyone spots any errors, has any suggestions, or further information please feel free to e-mail me at
