Asian AIDS Resources
The impact of AIDS in Asia is staggering. Although Africa has the largest number of people living with HIV, South and South-East Asia is the region where HIV is spreading fastest. Some experts estimate that there are as many as six million Asians infected with the HIV virus, more than the total number of persons elsewhere in the entire industrialized world. Some Asian countries suffer from low per capita incomes, dramatic inequities in income distribution, and poor healthcare infrastructure, making it difficult or impossible to provide high quality medical care to those who need it. Growth House is located in San Francisco, a major hub city for Pacific Rim activity. The Bay Area has a large Asian and Pacific Islander population drawn from many countries. We offer this directory of Asian resources to recognize the linguistic and cultural diversity in our Asian population. By Katherine Fair Donnelly. AIDS affects our entire society, and we hear from a wide range of people in grief. The author uses first-person narratives to explore the diversity of losses, emotions, and coping strategies. In addition to spouses and lovers, we meet a grandmother who lost three grandchildren to AIDS, and heterosexual women mourning best friends who were gay men. These personal sharings are combined with professional views to suggest approaches to grief that may work for you. This book will be of particular use to survivors living with disenfranchised grief. Multiple AIDS-Related Loss
By David Nord. Through the personal stories of four very different survivors, the book helps explain why multiple AIDS-related loss has uniquely devastating features. Beyond explaining the problem of grief due to multiple loss, the book also offers suggestions on ways to heal from the impact of AIDS.

As the body fights viruses, it creates antibodies to that virus. HIV antibody tests measure the presence of antibodies to HIV. They do not measure or detect the virus itself. There are three commonly used antibody tests.

What's the LAP?
LIFE AIDS PROJECT(LAP)
LAP Representative
Shigenori Shimizu
What our aims are
LAP(Life Aids Project) began with people thinking about the "lives" that we, as PHA(People With HIV/AIDS) or HIV-negatives, have lived through together. LAP is an NGO group that aims to construct mutually supportive relationships and care . We think these relationships and care should naturally promote self-confidence and vigor, and the understanding that we need each other. We do not think of this as some sort of "almsgiving", or an order that must be excuted. The word "life" refers to our whole lives, and our daily lives. HIV poses the serious question about how we should live our lives. We think one answer to that question is to make our lives more enriched. And we also think we can find that answer in each experience that we get in our mutual supportive relationships and care. LAP's activities are supported by the following concepts.
a) Target "after being tested positive".
We place supportive efforts and care for HIV-positive first, not actions for "social defense", like teaching people how to avoid getting HIV.
