The Latest Farmers Union Members Ask Congress for Disaster Assistance, Energy Crisis Action ST. PAUL (Sept. 15, 2005) Minnesota Farmers Union members travelled to Washington , D.C. this past week to press for Congressional action on disaster aid and energy policy. They were joined by hundreds of National Farmers Union (NFU) members from across the nation as part of the annual NFU Fall Fly-in September 12-14. “Tens of thousands of acres in northwestern Minnesota were not planted last spring because of heavy rains, while farmers in other areas of the nation have suffered from hurricane damage, or severe droughts,” said MFU President Doug Peterson. “When you combine those problems with skyrocketing energy costs, you can see why rural communities have asked Congress to take action on high fuel prices that are affecting consumers and farmers.”
