Historical background:
The teaching of agriculture, at An-Najah National University, began in 1986 with the establishment of the Department of Agriculture, in the College of Science. In 1992, the department became a full-fledged college and the ninth in the university. In 1996, the college was moved to its new campus, known as Khadouri, in Tulkarm. It is worth noting that the new site is one of the most beautiful geographical places in Palestine. It is only about 14 km to the east of the Mediterranean Sea. The campus area is about 400 dunums. However, only 115 dunums belong to the college. The college houses an old building, a cow farm, 60-year-old chicken farms and neighboring agricultural land. Dr. Maen Samarah , Dean agri@najah.edu

General Agriculture Building on a variety of programs offered throughout our College, general agriculture students tailor programs to fit their individual interests. Through coursework in different areas of concentration, general agriculture students develop programs with the flexibility to cover a variety of areas. You will select a primary concentration area from programs offered throughout the College. Secondary concentration areas broaden students' horizons, enabling them to be proficient in many different areas. The flexibility provided by the general agriculture program allows students transferring from other colleges and universities to complete the educational requirements and acquire their degree in a efficient manner. Real-life experience
The experience gained through coursework and internships proves invaluable. General agriculture internships in production agriculture, agribusiness and commodity organizations enable students to enhance their communication, problem-solving and technical abilities. Students are encouraged to participate in internship experiences and a capstone course of study in their major area.

      Introduction
Situated in one of the world's richest agricultural regions, the College of Agriculture has a long history in scholarship, professional education, and career preparation in agricultural and food sciences and their relationship to natural resources and the environment. As the land-grant agricultural institution for the state of Illinois, the college traces its heritage of public service to the enrollment of the first agriculture student at the Illinois Industrial University in 1868. Undergraduate students in the college can choose from among fourteen curricula and numerous study options in eight college departments, with more than 450 courses available in a broad range of agricultural, human ecology and environmentally related disciplines. Several cooperative programs with other colleges on campus exist and individualized programs of study may be designed to meet the student's particular educational needs, academic interests, and career goals.

The primary function of the Agricultural Education Program is the preparation of teachers of agricultural education for the public secondary schools of California. Specialized preprofessional and professional courses are offered for undergraduate and graduate (fifth year) students. Technological, scientific, and broad general education course work for agriculture teaching candidates is offered throughout the College of Agriculture and other Colleges including the College of Education and Integrative Studies. Students with an interest in becoming agriculture teachers are advised to enroll in the agricultural science major and obtain a B.S. degree, or they may complete a B.S. degree in one of the other approved majors in the College of Agriculture. Agricultural Science majors and all students who wish teacher certification are required to show competency in four areas of agriculture. This can be accomplished by completing the subject matter program in agriculture or receiving a passing score on the SSAT in Agriculture.
For students wishing to obtain a Master of Science in Agriculture, such a degree has been approved with an option in Agricultural Science.

60. Curriculum Development
Classes in the general agriculture short course have changed in content; Advanced general agriculture courses had been tried without success in 1904
http://www.canr.msu.edu/agtech/curriculum.html
CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT Short Courses at Michigan State University have evolved from their tenuous and tentative beginnings to well-planned academic instructional programs. The Short Course Department's responsibilities have evolved similarly, from a conglomeration of tasks ranging from sponsorship of Farmer's Institutes, Farmer's Week activities, county fair and State Fair exhibits, conferences, and diverse educational programs, to academic and on-the-job training programs generally 18 to 24 months in duration. This central purpose of short courses has been to offer practical vocational training to anyone who would be benefited by such training. The Short Course catalogs and annual reports tot he State Board of Agriculture have continuously stressed the practicality of these course. The catalog of 1913 stated bluntly, ". . . every effort is made to meet the student squarely on the problems which he encounters on his own home farm" ( 4-1913:3). THE EARLY YEARS In the winter of 1896, fruit growing or horticulture and livestock courses were added to the program. Buttermaking, cheese, and beet-sugar making courses started prior to 1900. The impetus for originating new courses often came about as a result of the arrival on campus of students who wanted specific training. In the case of the sugar beet course, five students appeared on campus in the winter of 1899 and wanted to learn more about the neophyte sugar processing industry. Although no such courses had been planned or announced, Dr. Robert C. Kedzie, Professor of Chemistry, developed and taught the course for the five eager students. Several other students who came unexpectedly, seeking instruction in commercial floriculture and winter vegetable gardening at the same time, were accepted into regular courses on a special student bases.
