Science policy: bodies supported by OST
OST supports a number of bodies which are involved in advising Government on or formulating policy with respect to key science and technology issues. Their respective memberships are drawn from a wide range of backgrounds. Agriculture and Environment Biotechnology Commission Council for Science and Technology Human Genetics Commission Ministerial Committees on Science Policy (SCI) and Ministerial Sub-Committee on Biotechnology (SCI (BIO)) ... Natural Hazard Working Group Agriculture and Environment Biotechnology Commission The Agriculture and Environment Biotechnology Commission (AEBC) provides the UK Government and Devolved Administrations with independent strategic advice on developments in biotechnology and their implications for agriculture and the environment. It looks at the broad picture, taking ethical and social issues into account as well as the science. Set up in June 2000, the AEBC forms part of the strategic framework on biotechnology, alongside the Human Genetics Commission and the Food Standards Agency.
AEBC's secretariat is based within OST. On 27 May 2004 the Goverment announced a routine review of the AEBC and on 2 December 2004 the Independent reviewer's report was published. Government published its response on 5 April 2005.

The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) represent quantifiable targets for addressing the major problems facing our world today. They also characterize our basic human rights to health, shelter, security and education Goal 1: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger Goal 2: Achieve universal primary education Goal 3: Promote gender equality and empower women Goal 4: Reduce child mortality Goal 5: Improve maternal health Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases Goal 7: Ensure environmental sustainability Goal 8: Develop a Global Partnership for Development Achieving these goals by 2015 requires a strong focus on development; and at 5 years since inception, still more needs to be done. Information campaigns are essential to evoke individual and collective action; emphasising the significance of partnerships, advocacy and government intervention. Regency and its UN partners are engaged in a number of initiatives relating to advancement of the Millennium Development Goals; the purpose of which are to a) raise awareness of the importance of achieving the MDGs amongst government, business and civil society organizations; b) emphasize the significance of the plan of action as set out in the report entitled Investing in Development: A Practical Plan to Achieve the Millennium Development Goals and c) illustrate how the various issues are being positively addressed in UN Member States.

CSALE is an interdisciplinary research institution located on the University of Saskatchewan campus in Saskatoon. The purpose of CSALE is to research the relationships between ecosystem health, agricultural production and distribution, and the legal regulation of markets and the environment; to investigate fundamental assumptions of environmental analysis; to propose integrative policy frameworks; and to communicate the results of the Centre's research and analysis to researchers, policy makers and industry participants. The focus of CSALE research falls into three main areas: AGROFORESTRY - FOOD SAFETY - GREENHOUSE GASES (GHGs) CSALE is administered by its Director, a Senior Economics Fellow, a Senior Law Fellow and a Senior Science Fellow.
