Welcome to Nizwa.NET
Nizwa is one of the largest cities in Oman and the capital of the interior region. It has a wealth of cultural and ancient landmarks, most prominent is Nizwa fort built over a period of 12 years and located in the city center. The fort is surrounded by ancient traditional souqs (markets) where the locals trade in traditional as well as imported merchandise, from vegetables to jewelry. Nizwa is an oasis in the enclosed by a series of mountains upon which the famous green mountain ( al Jabal al Akhdar ) lies. The city is also at cross roads that lead to southern Oman as well as the Dhahirah and Sharqiah regions.
Nizwa.NET is educational, public, web site with the purpose of spreading awareness about the country of Oman in the Middle East. Nizwa.NET started as "Nizwa Oasis" and hosted by geocities but due to the popularity of the site, it was often blocked when bandwidth reached its maximum limits. Nizwa.NET was born out of that site with pretty much the same information but with more flexibility and ease of navigation. Besides tourist information, the site focuses on issues related to agriculture and the environment. Besides original contents, some of the information on this site is collected over time from various sources that are indicated at the bottom of each page. I hope you will find the useful and if you have comments or suggestions, please do not hesitate to send your feedback. Also you may contact me for advertising and promotion opportunities on this site. This site a lot of work, so if you use it please add a link back to the site and give credit where it is due. Thank you and come back soon. Nizwa.NET webmaster.

Publication by the Controlled environment Agricultural (CEA) Program of the College of agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University. An electronic handbook for the production of CEA hydroponic spinach.
http://www.bee.cornell.edu/extension/CEA/indexv4.htm
Home Grower's Handbooks Business Opportunities Research Archive NASA Research ... Links Introduction Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) is an advanced and intensive form of hydroponically-based agriculture. Plants are grown within a controlled environment so that horticultural practices can be optimized. CEA techniques are not simpler than older systems for growing plants. Indeed, they demand sound knowledge of chemistry, horticulture, engineering, plant physiology, plant pathology, computers and entomology. A wide range of skills as well as a natural inclination to attend to details are necessary for a person to operate a successful CEA production in either a research or commercial setting. At the Desamparados parade, students from Las Gravilias school wore period costumes.
Marchers in miniskirts show independence
By the A.M. Costa Rica staff
Independence day parades are organized by educators, so the word from the ministry is supposed to be law. Among other rules is one that says students had to march and participate in any other civic act at their school.
But the miniskirt situation has been the
topic of newspaper editorials and official comments for most of the administration of
Forbidden skirt
Abel Pacheco. Each year the ministry decrees against miniskirts, and each year tons of female marchers wear them. If the ministry enforces its edict, most female students will have 30 days off from school. More serious Thursday was the traditional student beer party in Moravia centro. Underage drinkers, mostly 14, 15 and 16 year olds, usually Kindergarteners from the Las Gravilias school of Desamparados show off their determination as well as their flag.

Soil and Environment Activities
The following activities are designed for you to study how sol and the environment affects agriculture. Try some or try all of the tasks. Some of these ideas are taken from the Agriculture Saskatchewan series by Saskatchewan Education.
Activity 1: Soil Texture Recognizing soil texture and its related characteristics is very important in production decisions made by producers every year. Obtain dry samples of sand, silt and clay. Record your findings in a journal writing format.
Using the samples of sand, silt and clay, rub a pinch of each between the thumb and forefinger? Which is the smoothest? the coarsest?
Place a pinch of one of the samples in the palm of one hand and add two drops of water from an eyedropper. Use the forefinger of the other hand to mix the water with the soil. Describe how the sample feels when wet. Repeat with the other two samples.
Place no more than three to five grains of salt in the palm of one hand. Using an eyedropper, add five drops of liquid laundry starch. Use the forefinger of the other hand to mix the salt and liquid starch. Add three drops of white glue and mix. Compare this mixture to the mixtures produced in part B. Add two more grains of salt and mix. Describe the effect of adding more salt.
