AfricaBib

AfricaBib consists of two bibliographic databases covering Africana periodical literature (Bibliography of Africana Periodical Literature Database) and African Women's literature (African Women's Database). It also provides a comprehensive bibliography on women travelers and explorers to Africa (Women Travelers, Explorers and Missionaries to Africa: 1763-1999: A Comprehensive English Language Bibliography). The databases are maintained by Davis Bullwinkle, Director, Institute for Economic Advancement (IEA) Research Library. Africawoman Africawoman is a fully-wired women-led news and broadcasting service. The service currently operates in four countries - Ghana, Kenya, Uganda and Zimbabwe - but will eventually include every African country. It is run by about 40 women journalists and activists. Africawoman's vision is driven by a monthly web-based newspaper that is distributed via the Internet to activists and community radio networks. It creates a distinctive African women's news agenda and enables news written by women to be accessed by rural women, using radio to by-pass the challenges of literacy and distribution. The project also involves training the women journalists in a monthly "virtual newsroom" to plan and write the next edition. Africawoman is funded by the UK Government's Department for International Development (DFID) and by the British Council.

Asociatia Femeilor Din Romania - Women's Association of Romania (AFR) Asociatia Femeilor Din Romania (AFR) is the first democratic organization for women that started during the December 1989 revolution, as a result of the necessity to organize, represent and defend Romanian women's rights. It is a non-governmental, non-profit and non-political organization, legally established in 1990. AFR has 9350 members in Bucharest and 20 branches in different Romanian counties. During the twelve years of existence, AFR - Women's Association from Romania - the initiator of the national women's rights movement - has become a strong link between organizations, committees and coalitions that work for the benefit of Romanian women.

user-friendly. Searching can be based on the most general criteria or can make reasonable demands in terms of specificity…..the Companion is both a practical tool for publishing and book trade practitioners and a potentially invaluable source of contacts and information for anyone involved at an academic level in publishing education or research."

February marks Black History Month, a time to reflect upon the history and teachings of African Americans whose contributions are still too little known. Below, you'll find a wide variety of biographical resources that paint a picture of African-American history and celebrate its leaders. Civil Rights Leaders
In the 1960s, students marched for equal rights, George Wallace gained international notoriety as the segregationist governor of Alabama and Jim Crow laws prevailed in the South. Drinking fountains, theaters, hotels, schools and restaurants were separate and unequal, despite the fact that the Supreme Court had ruled segregation in public schools unconstitutional in 1954 (Brown v. the Board of Education of Topeka). During this period, black and white citizens participated in nonviolent acts of protest against racial discrimination. This period would be remembered as the civil rights movement.

NIGERIA
The mission of Mangrove Forest Conservation Society of Nigeria (MFCSN) is to formulate and implement various components of rural community development projects in the Niger Delta capable of making positive impact on sustainable human development and As a membership organization, Nigeria Environmental Study/Action Team (NEST) has the overall goal of acting in concert with an active nationwide membership to sensitize and empower Nigerians on issues of the environment and sustainable development, through the dissemination of factual information, training on skills acquisition and promotion of sustainable livelihoods. NEST arose out of the observation that the past decades had witnessed numerous negative impacts of human activities on the environment, the adverse effects of such degraded environments on Nigerians, linking environmental degradation tightly to poverty, and the uncomfortable adjustments that many people have had to make in the attempt to survive. Among the many environmental stresses in the country are those brought about by deforestation, soil erosion, desertification, air and water pollution, water scarcity, floods, urban solid wastes, industrial pollution especially from petroleum production and use, loss of biodiversity, energy crises and general resources degradation, which impact most adversely on disadvantaged groups, particularly the poor, women and children. NEST has the view that limited knowledge and awareness, weak policies and institutional framework, as well as inappropriate allocation of resources underlie these environmental stresses.
