Twenty-year-old Adam Abdul Hakeem was the first person in American judicial history to be found innocent by reason of self defense in a police shooting case. This gripping documentary tells the story of Hakeem, (formerly named Larry Davis), who tried to extricate himself from a police-run drug ring in which he had participated for six years. In doing so, it examines the relationships between law enforcement agencies, the criminal justice system, and the African-American community. ( more Adam Clayton Powell

INTRODUCTION
This research guide focuses on the sources you may find useful in researching issues in Ethnic Studies. This guide is not a comprehensive list of research materials, but it will give you an overview of the sources you should consider as you plan your research, as well as some starting places for different materials. Planning an effective research strategy will be essential to the success of your paper since many of the familiar legal research tools, such as annotated codes, legal encyclopedias and West key numbers will not provide access to the best research materials for these issues. Your research will be highly interdisciplinary in nature and may lead you to materials in social sciences, economics, sociology, history and public policy, as well as law. Empirical data, such as income, population and/or immigration statistics may be relevant to your research and analysis. The web sites listed in this guide under "Journal Abstracts and Indexes"

African-American Studies
Traditionally, African-American Studies has focused on the history of Black people in the United States. However, as reflected in the following sources, African-American Studies is highly interdisciplinary, and seeks to acquaint students with trends, issues, and forces that have shaped the Black experience in America. At the same time, such factors as cultural adaptation, institutional development, and group self-definition are examined, while surveying the contemporary status and condition of African-Americans. Many of the following indexes and abstracts, although they are multidisciplinary in scope, contain a wealth of information germane to African-Americans.
