These databases and indexes are recommended by history faculty. To get articles about a specific subject, it is best to use indexes. Indexes can be paper copies or electronic indexes. Electronic indexes are actually databases. Each will refer you to articles about a particular subject. The citation will list the title of the article and journal complete with volume and/or issue number, page numbers and date. The citation information is what you need to complete your works cited . Most of the time journal articles are secondary sources; however they can be primary sources if published within the dates of the event that you are researching. From secondary source articles you can find primary source information in the footnotes or list of publications at the end of the article. Many historians use primary sources in their scholarly articles. Special Databases (May contain journal articles, diaries, reports, etc.)

American Studies and the Question of Empire: Histories, Cultures, and Practices
Seattle, Washington
The 1998 ASA Program Committee invites colleagues in American Studies and all related disciplines to submit proposals for individual papers, presentations, performances, films, round-tables, workshops, conversations, or entire sessions on any topic dealing with American cultures, including topics in disciplines that have been under-represented in American Studies research and teaching. All topicsthe more imaginative, the betterwill be given careful consideration. The greater multi- and interdisciplinarity reflected in a proposal, the greater its chances of acceptance. The ASA Annual Meeting is open to anyone having an interdisciplinary interest in the study of American culture and civilization. At the 1997 meetings in Washington D.C. , the co-chairs and program committee for the 1998 meetings were delighted by diverse responses to the initial theme statement. We would like to share some of the ideas for papers and panels that we heard from amongst this year's conference participants, in order to reiterate the breadth of the invitation to engage with the 1998 theme "American Studies and the Question of Empire: Histories, Cultures, and Practices." Proposals for individual papers should include: (1) the paper or presentation title, name of presenter, and one-page abstract of the paper or presentation (2) a contact data sheet listing home and office telephone numbers and preferred mailing and e-mail addresses (especially if different from institutional addresses), (3) short vitae (maximum 2 pages in length), and (4) "key words" identifying the discipline(s), historical period(s), and subject matter(s) of the paper.

There have been numerous studies that indicate having an abortion increases your risk of breast cancer. Here are just a few:
  • 1981 - A Los Angeles study found a significant 2-4 times higher incidence of breast cancer among women under 33 years of age who aborted their first baby. (2) 1993 - A Howard University study showed that African American women over age 50 were 4.7 times more likely to get breast cancer if they had an abortion compared to women who had not had abortions. (3) 1994 - A National Cancer Institute study of over 1,800 women in Washington State found a 50 percent increased risk among women who had abortions. The risk was more than double for women whose first abortion took place before age 18 or over age 30. (1)
Dr. Janet Daling is a cancer researcher at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and the University of Washington. On November 2, 1994, Dr. Daling and fellow researchers published an article in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute (pp. 1584-1592) concerning induced abortion and breast cancer risk for premenopausal women. Dr. Janet Daling is self-described as 'pro-choice'. Some key findings:
