We've known for centuries that LLC studies is matchless in preparing you for a lifetime of reading, analysis, self-discovery, and self-expression. Each of our four choices grounds you in the sophisticated thought and analysis of literary studies, then focuses you upon a track that will take you more deeply into literary studies, more broadly into cultural studies, or into the specific preparations you'll need for careers in education or law. In addition to the in-major core requirements (15 hours), each track has its own unique emphasis and requirements.
The Literature Track This choice allows you the maximum of time devoted to the various periods, genres, themes, major figures, and practices distinctive to region, ethnicity, or gender; you'll not only finish your degree with a rich sense of the best that has been thought and said, but you'll find yourself skilled in the art of analyzing any text or body of data before you and presenting your analysis persuasively and insightfully. The B.A. in English, LLC Option/Literature Track, requires 45 hours and 120 hours overall. The literature track requires 30 hours (beyond the 15-hour in-major core), distributed as follows:

Introductory Courses
Introductory courses provide students with an overview of the field of English literature, and the opportunity to develop the analytical reading and writing skills critical for success in the major and minor. Students will leave the introductory sequence with a breadth of knowledge upon which they can build a concentration ENGL 4: Writing in the Discipline of English credits
This 6-week module will use the texts discussed in ENGL 20 a/b or ENGL 21 a/b as the basis for papers and extended research. Students will study the discourse conventions of English and practice the skills necessary for writing in the discipline of English. The course will include instruction in MLA style, advanced library research, and bibliographic skills. Offered in the first and second half of each semester.

A digital library of 18th and 19th century journals. ArchivesUSA provides information on more than 4,400 archival repositories in the United States that have combined holdings of nearly 100,000 special collections. The database combines three index directories of primary source materials. First, an updated directory that supersedes the Directory of Archives and Manuscript Repositories in the United States , last published in 1988. Second, the collection records from the National Union Catalogue of Manuscript Collections , information gathered and compiled by the Library of Congress from the 1950s through 1995; and third, collections indexed in the National Inventory of Documentary Sources in the United States . The database is updated quarterly and is searchable by individual collection or repository site. MLA Bibliography is a massive index and abstracting service focused on the subject areas of literature, language, linguistics, and folklore.
