RESEARCHING INDIGENOUS PEOPLES RIGHTS UNDER INTERNATIONAL LAW
Steven C. Perkins
This is a revision of a document prepared for presentation at the 1992 Annual Meeting of the American Association of Law Libraries. It may be reproduced for non-profit educational use if this notice appears on the reproduction. This paper was originally produced in 1992, prior to the INTERNET and the explosion of information it has engendered. In updating it, I have tried to create links to online materials on indigenous peoples and ethnic minorities rights under international law. This paper is not meant to be a comprehensive guide to information on indigenous people. It is meant to be a guide to researching international law and indigenous peoples and ethnic minorities rights. This paper was originally delivered as part of a program on indigenous peoples rights. Other speakers, Professor George S. Grossman , and Professor Kirke Kickingbird , covered American Indians. Because of that, this paper's coverage of American Indians is limited. In 1996, Professor

16. International Civil Matters – April 2005
South africa is now a member of a number of international treaty regimes which in need to give effect to its rights via international civil litigation.
http://www.derebus.org.za/archives/2005Apr/articles/international.htm
Articles International civil matters Kevin MaIunga asks whether consolidation of legislation is advisable to facilitate international cooperation in civil matters In light of the present globalisation of economies and South Africa's readmission to the international community, the logic of increased cooperation in civil matters cannot be questioned. International law - both in terms of customary international law (which in domestic terms we can liken to the common law) and conventions and treaties (which in domestic terms are akin to statutes) - embraces the doctrine of incorporation which essentially places an onus on states to incorporate into their domestic legislation their international obligations and international norms generally. Whereas the present legal regime may be well meaning, it represents a sprawling maze which is difficult to put into practice, more so because international lawyers outside South Africa's borders may want to ascertain the South African position on behalf of a foreign or South African client. I will attempt to show the pros and cons of consolidation under the three headings set out below. Recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments.

Nepal Bans Radio Production Firm The authorities in Nepal have ordered the closure of a radio production company serving FM stations nationwide. International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is observed annually on 21 March. On that day, in 1960, police opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration in Sharpeville, South Africa, against the apartheid "pass laws". Proclaiming the Day in 1966, the General Assembly called on the international community to redouble its efforts to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination.
