Ancient Civilizations Ancient Civilizations 1. How Do We Know? How Do We Know?
3-4 class periods Introduce students to how we study the past. Give them the opportunity to determine if they would rather approach the past as an archaeologist, anthropologist, historian, or geographer. Students will research the roles of these professions then share with the class what they would prefer as a career. 2. Prehistoric Times Prehistoric Times
3 to 5 classes Have your students explore the lives of some of the very earliest people. In this lesson students are introduced to prehistoric people: their way of life, tools, food, clothing, and shelter. Students complete a short project to demonstrate their understanding of the concepts of the lesson. 3. Ancient Egypt 3d. Mummies Ancient Egypt - Mummy Museum
2 class periods plus time for completing projects Have your class enter the exotic world of mummification. Show your students how ancient Egyptians made mummies, take your class on a virtual field trip to the Canadian Museum to see the materials and tools used in the process, and engage them in a number of online activities. Finally, have each student make a mummy and sign his/her name, in hieroglyphics, of course.

The Topic:
Ancient Africa Easier - The continent of Africa was the home of early prehistoric man. Over the years, many different people have lived there. Until recently, the history of those cultures has been largely ignored by modern civilization. Harder - Africa has been called the "birthplace of the human race." The oldest evidence of human-like creatures and people found anywhere in the world are the bones and other fossils discovered at many sites in eastern and southern Africa. From this evidence, most scientists have concluded that the earliest human beings lived about 2 million years ago in eastern Africa. The crude stone tools made by these people gave the Stone Age its name. In time, the Stone Age culture spread to other continents. The fertile soils of the Nile Valley supported some of the earliest and richest farming com

By Paul Barton The earliest people in the Americas were people of the Negritic African race, who entered the Americas perhaps as early as 100,000 years ago, by way of the bering straight and about thirty thousand years ago in a worldwide maritime undertaking that included journeys from the then wet and lake filled Sahara towards the Indian Ocean and the Pacific, and from West Africa across the Atlantic Ocean towards the Americas.
According to the Gladwin Thesis, this ancient journey occurred, particularly about 75,000 years ago and included Black Pygmies, Black Negritic peoples and Black Australoids similar to the Aboriginal Black people of Australia and parts of Asia, including India.

ANCIENT AFRICAN KINGDOMS PRODUCED
OLMEC TYPE CULTURES
The ancient West African coastal and interior Kingdoms occupied an area that is now covered with dense vegetation but may have been cleared about three to four thousand years ago. This includes the regions from the coasts of West Africa to the South, all the way inland to the Sahara. A number of large kingdoms and empires existed in that area. According to Blisshords Communications, one of the oldest empires and civilizions on earth existed just north of the coastal regions into what is today Mauritania. It was called the Zingh Empire and was highly advanced. In fact, they were the first to use the red, black and green African flag and to plant it throughout their territory all over Africa and the world.

Could we modern Earthlings be the descendants of Ancient Astronauts ?
Where Have We Been? This Olmec Head (right) is thought to be over 3000 years old. The man's features are clearly African, but this giant 8 foot tall stone statue was found in the jungles of Mexico - and is but one of 17 so far discovered, in varrying stages of erosion from millennia in the deep jungle. One imagines, in any century, it is to be considered a high honor for someone to take the time to carve your likeness in anything even approaching the size of a volkswagon - thus, they were leaders, or heroes; certainly revered figures. Before Rome or Greece, or even the pharaohs of Egypt, there was a civilization, a dominant culture in Mexico from the Pacific to the Yucatan - and the people who posed for the Olmec Heads are known to have written in symbols almost identical to that of the Nubian, Kush, Vai and Mande tribes of West Africa. While his helment looks like something right out of the Bronze Age, on closer inspection, doesn't appear to have been made of metal at all - it could very well have been leather, or any form of cloth attributed to the time. Could it be simply a hat, or even a religious costume? The thing is, each Olmec Head is of a different person - with slightly different features, and slightly different hats.
