    Afghanistan is located in Central Asia at a longitude of 33°00′N and a latitude of 65°00′E, and is 647,500 km² (similar to the Australian state of New South Wales , or the Canadian province of Manitoba , and slightly smaller than the U.S. state of Texas ). The country is landlocked and mountainous , containing the south-western ranges of the Hindu Kush . There are four major rivers in the country: Amu Darya Hari Rud , and the Kabul and Helmand Rivers.
