Profile Postgraduate Activity Theory Practice ... Unit for Journalism Research
Departmental Research Profile
Research in the department takes place in an institution with a commitment to innovation and a buoyant research culture that draws strength and distinctiveness from international activity. The College's Centre for Cultural Studies, established in 1998, provides a key focus for the interdisciplinary relationships in which the department is involved. The department has strengthened its commitment to research through a series of high quality appointments, by creating a number of new research-active posts and developing new links with the social sciences, visual arts and cultural studies. The department has built up a strong infrastructure to support staff and postgraduate students. Members of the department are actively involved in setting the agenda for their respective fields and regularly attend international conferences and other symposia where new work is mapped out. The department's research comes together through a mix of formal groupings and informal networks. The former involve regular meetings, the circulation and presentation of papers, joint authorship and funding applications; the latter result in informal discussions, reading draft work and joint teaching and research supervision.

Note that best research strategy for using this page is first to browse in the category most likely to contain relevant information, and then to use your browser's 'Search' or 'Find' function to hunt for key words in this document. Note that these links have been carefully selected because of their usefulness and because they usually include a further list of comprehensive links (chosen by their knowledgeable webmasters) to other sites dealing with same topic. So the sites listed here are believed to be useful if one wishes to get an overview of a particular field or find more connections than we can include in PsycSite. Note that the number of sites dealing with psychology has increased to the extent that PsycSite cannot possibly keep up with and index the resources now available. All we do is try to highlight some of the best sites we happen to know about. The use of Internet search engines is strongly recommended as a supplementary tool. One such highly recommened search engine is Google.

DECORATOR AND INTERIOR DESIGNER
SPECIALTY: Decoration and Interior Design Nowadays Decoration and Interior Design are to Architecture what the soul is to the body. No space is like any other: each environment has its own spirit; objects, colors and textures fill and give sense to our existence. The challenge for experts today is to turn each environment into a pleasant place: that a palace may have the homely warmth of a small apartment and that at the same time it may still look as a palace. It is a Major that stimulates and develops a sense of aesthetics and creativity in young people. Nothing is lacking or leftover: everything is in its exact place: Composition, Ergonomics, Aesthetics, Visual Semiology, Lighting, Acoustics and a complete platform of digital design. We invite you to open the door of this new Major, come and set your imagination and talent to work.

Institute of Personality and Social Research at UC Berkeley About IPSR Navigation Home About IPSR People Resources ... Us About IPSR: A Brief History Over time, the Institute's focus expanded. New projects were launched that studied environmental psychology, art and psychology, culture, development of personality, and psychobiographical case studies. Cooperative endeavors with foreign research centers were undertaken that involved exchange of scholars in a range of fields. As part of the international focus, efforts were undertaken to translate a number of personality inventories that had been developed at the Institute into other languages. In 1992, the Institute expanded again to include the study of social processes, a natural extension given that individual differences are primarily expressed in and gain meaning from social contexts. Reflecting this change, the Institute changed its name to the Institute of Personality and Social Research. This expansion has attracted new programs, new energies, and new members to the Institute. During the 2002-2003 academic year, Robert W. Levenson finished his five-year term as Director of IPSR and, after a one-year sabbatical during which Sheldon Zedeck served as interim director, began his second five-year term. IPSR currently unites a distinguished membership from a broad range of disciplines including business, neuroscience, psychology, public health, public policy, and social welfare. Members come from the University of California campuses at Berkeley, Davis, and San Francisco, and from Stanford University.

http://www.orgchem.iisc.ernet.in/faculty/gm/research interest.htm
The science of organic synthesis deals with the creation of diverse molecular architecture through controlled, efficient and logically orchestrated carbon-carbon and carbon-hetero atom bond connectivities. The choice of target structure for synthesis could be vast, varied and almost unlimited, ranging from naturally occurring molecules to functional entities that exhibit tailor-made physico-chemical characteristics. In the design of molecules, shape, symmetry, energetics, diastereoselectivity, chirality, brevity and efficiency of the synthetic sequence and novelty of the strategy are the key elements. Thus, organic synthesis is a unique branch of science that blends art and aesthetics with creativity and utility. Our synthetic interests encompasses molecules of Nature as well as those molecular entities that are creations of human imagination Design of New Molecular Entities During the past decade, we have conceived of buckybowls, hetero-bowls and ladderanes as new molecular entities and achieved the synthesis of several of these molecules for the first time following conceptually simple, innovative protocols. Total Synthesis of Natural Products Nature, the master craftsman of molecules, has created almost an inexhaustible array of molecular entities, replete with myriad combination of rings, functionalities and stereochemical diversity. Many of these natural products exhibit unique biological activity and are lead compounds for drug discovery and for unraveling complex bio-molecular interactions. My group has been interested in the synthesis of a variety of natural products that combine structural novelty and challenge of carbocylic ring construction with potential biological activity. Some of the accomplishments of my group in the area of total synthesis in the past few years are indicated in Figure 1. Presently, research is underway towards the total synthesis of several target structures of contemporary interest and with promising biological leads like guanacastepene A, celafolin A , garsubellin A, hamigeran B, yaretol, merrilactone, Harziphilone and spiculoic acid (see Fig. 2).

Spirituality for Ministry SPIRITUALITY AND AESTHETICS Aesthetics is the creation and appreciation of beauty. It can find expression in any number of ways, including drawing, painting, sculpture, architecture, tapestry, beautiful furniture, music, writing, prose or poetry, dance, computer images, film, scientific formulae, a form of mathematical aesthetics, and supremely in the living of one's life. Exploration Aesthetics is a fruitful way of exploring one's personal being, of entering upon the journey of self-discovery. It helps us gain access to the essence of the body/self, and, particularly, to feelings and emotions. It is also a bodily expression of, and a ritualization of, what is discovered. It helps us escape the prison of the mind, which blinds us to those dimensions of reality that lie beyond mental constructs. Expression Aesthetics is also a means of expression. Exploration and expression are intertwined. One difference between the two is that expression is often public; we express ourselves to others. While the presence of another can sometimes inhibit inner exploration, if it distracts us or subverts our authenticity, it may also assist us. It can do this in two ways. First, the presence of an empathetic other may help us gain access to aspects of the shadow self. The art of the therapist may enhance the artistry of the client, giving depth to their self-understanding and a new competence to their self-management. Second, an audience can sometimes draw the best from us. The success of preaching depends as much on the readiness and participation of those listening as it does on the skill and the preparation of the preacher.

Backpacker Tours A Walk in the Park Inca Trail, Peru By Phil Ganz Early ruins on the Inca Trail I have yet to meet someone who is willing to stick their neck out, be courageous, and say that the Inca Trail is rubbish. As much as I crave for being novel, I can't be that someone either. Everyone's Inca Trail is a personal trip and mine felt epic. The Trail moved as though it was hewn into the mountains by a gifted artist with a razor sharp understanding of dramatic curve and the human psyche. It would be a story that we always knew the plot and ending of, but as with all good art, it is the unexpected bursts of genius that overwhelm you. Its capacity for revealing nuances and extremes of emotion that you never knew existed within you differentiate this from your standard walk in the park. The trail gently teased me on its first day with mild suggestions of what it may reveal of itself in the next three days. The scenery and variety of fauna encountered would already have made it a memorable trek by itself but the myths and infamies that hang in the air of every gringo hangout in Cusco played on my mind, and made sure this was only the light reading of an introductory chapter. There was the buzz of anticipation in the campsite that night and we were introduced to the most creative - and mostly tasty - cooking possible, with the bare minimum variety of ingredients available. I was personally also introduced to sleepless nights in the cold tent in my summer sleeping bag and eight-fold layered clothing.
