We had an obstacle course around the school led by the mayor of Saline. Some walked with their classrooms and stopped to exercise. Other classes walked. After the event, each participant received a bottle of water and a badge of participation donated by the food service department. We had a great response to the program and plan on adding more schools next year and include more people from the community." Patterson Learning Center

When it comes to a well-rounded education, what happens out on the playing field can be as beneficial to a child as what happens in the classroom. Today, many students and school districts alike are finding that the key to academic success — and to staying in school — is a healthy balance of both academics and sports. This growing emphasis on K-12 sports as part of a well-balanced education means districts are making major investments in sports facilities. Aluminum bleachers are giving way to concrete stadiums capable of seating upwards of 10,000 fans. Once stuffy, crowded press boxes are becoming state-of-the-art media and coaching facilities that are wired for speed and sound with Internet ports and superior audio design.

http://www.andrews-school.org/athletics.html
Life at Andrews doesn't end with the school day. Opportunities to participate in athletic activities and personal fitness programs are an important part of learning self-reliance and confidence. Lessons learned on the athletic field and in the weight room are carried over into every other aspect of student life. We are proud of our strong tradition of athletic participation for our students. Our athletes participate in individual and team competition through our membership in the Private School League. Our athletic facilities include 6 practice fields, tennis courts, and new Field House that features a gym, 3 fitness rooms (aerobic, weight and cardio-fitness) and 2 locker rooms. Andrews' "no cut" policy promotes participation, making it possible for all interested students to be part of a team. There are sports for every season at Andrews and an activity for every ability. In addition, extracurricular options include equestrian sports, skiing, hiking and aerobics. Our coaches play a major role in the development of athletes in their charge. They help students develop leadership skills, promote teamwork and instill sportsmanship. These values apply not only to athletics, but to life.

The following list of professional organizations and resource groups represents the growing diversity in the field of sports medicine. The list also includes government agencies, sports-related groups, and academic centers that are active in tracking sports injuries. The list is divided into three sections: sports medicine organizations groups and committees that generate sports medicine information, and statistics-gathering groups . Some groups appear more than once; they have been cross-referenced in each instance. Entries in each of the three sections have been arranged alphabetically. When appropriate, we have given the names of directors and other officers. Links are also provided to entries who have Web sites. While The Physician and Sportsmedicine does not endorse any of the groups listed, we do encourage readers to contact the ones that interest them. We have included only the essential information about each group; more detailed descriptions can be obtained by calling or writing to the groups. Readers who would like their organization added to this list should contact The Physician and Sportsmedicine Groups List, 4530 W 77th St, Minneapolis, MN 55435, e-mail:
