Managing Disruptive Student Behavior in Adult Basic Education. Overview. ERIC Digest No. 54.
"Disruptive student behavior" describes student-initiated acts that range from tardiness to violence against classmates or staff members. Tardiness and similar lesser offenses are common in schools; they also are easily ignored when serious problems are being discussed. However, all disruptions, regardless of perceived seriousness, subtract from already limited academic learning time, and in that respect, they create a serious problem for educators (Schriro 1985). Adult education has been thought to be relatively free of such problems. Adults are perceived as individuals who know how to behave themselves. Also, for many years, adults were generally thought to be participating in education voluntarily; therefore, behavior was not a problem. Whether or not this is true, instructors find that disruptive student behavior is a growing problem in adult basic education (ABE). Many feel this problem has come about because ABE programs have started to serve younger adults (ages 16-18). WHY ARE YOUNGER STUDENTS A PROBLEM?

http://home.comcast.net/~travis40/
About our
Upcoming Construction
Rabbi: Arnold Fertig Presidents: Rob Gati Vice-President: Michael Rodman Temple Beth Shalom is both a Reform synagogue and a Jewish Community Center. We strive to create a spirit of community in ways seldom seen in larger religious organizations today. We are a small, "family", oriented synagogue. By "family" we mean the traditional family as well as the larger community family. We have activities suitable for all members to participate. In addition, our religious services are open to participation by the congregation. This participation can be in English or Hebrew. Although we are affiliated with the reform tradition, there is enough Hebrew used in our services to make our conservative brethren comfortable. We believe that the beautiful liturgy of Jewish services should be known and practiced by all. If you so desire, we invite you to read a passage, chant, or partake of the honor of an Aliyah(Torah reading). On the community side, Temple Beth Shalom provides each member with a network of friends and acquaintances from a wide background of interests and occupations. It is common for new members to find new friends quickly and a feeling of comfort within our warm environment. Our ability to provide this type of environment is the result of a mix of young and older members and the warmth they bring with them. It is a tremendous source of pride for us and a major reason people join. In summary, it is our belief that you will find a community and religious organization like no other you have experienced. It is our charter to nurture, protect, and grow this environment for the benefit of our members.
