The Connecticut State Board of Education is committed to quality adult education programs which are accessible to all Connecticut adults and lead to mastery of the essential proficiencies needed to function as productive citizens in work, family and community environments. Connecticut’s adult education programs are governed by Connecticut General Statutes, which require local school districts to offer education programs necessary to acquire basic literacy skills, elementary education, English language proficiency, secondary school completion and/or preparation for equivalency or proficiency examinations.

Part of Shoals Marine Laboratory's mission as a teaching field station is to provide the general public with a glimpse into the exciting world of marine science. SML's adult education programs offer participants a chance to learn about marine topics in a relaxed and beautiful setting. Adult education programs have no prerequisites; however, because of course content and the rugged nature of Appledore's environment, enrollment is limited to adults and children 12 years of age or older*. The total cost includes room, board, and all field trips, and round-trip transportation Portsmouth, New Hampshire. All participants will travel aboard an SML vessel on the first and last day of each program. More information regarding parking, directions to Portsmouth schedules and accommodations in the seacoast area will be sent to you after your registration is received. All SML rooms are double occupancy.

Carcross, or Caribou Crossing as it was known by the Goldrush stampeders, is located midway between Whitehorse, Yukon, and Skagway, Alaska, on the narrows that separate Bennet and Nares Lakes. Tagish is approximately 35kms east of Carcross. Both communities are home to members of the Carcross/Tagish First Nation, as well as a sizeable non-First Nations' population. The campus, which has been operating in Carcross in various guises since the late 1970's, offers a wide variety of College programming. It also works with C/TFN and other community groups to develop curriculum to meet the specific needs of Carcross and Tagish residents. Examples of locally-developed curriculum include a video production program, a First Nation's clan research project, and a course in equine parisitology! The campus is staffed by one full-time employee and one part-time employee.
