This tutorial assumes that you have had some exposure to some other algorithmic programming language (such as Pascal, C, C++, or Fortran). This tutorial teaches the latest version of Ada, termed `Ada 95' or `Ada 9X', but it does note differences where they occur with the previous version of Ada (termed `Ada 83' or `Ada 87'). Ada programming language
Ada is a structured , statically typed programming language designed by Jean Ichbiah of CII Honeywell Bull in the . It is positioned to address much the same tasks as C or C++ , but with the type-safety of a language like Java . (Some cite Ada as an influence on Java.) Ada was originally targeted at embedded and real-time systems, and is still commonly used for those purposes. The Ada 95 revision, designed by S. Tucker Taft of Intermetrics between and , improved support for systems, numerical, and financial programming. Notable features of Ada include strong typing modularity mechanisms (packages), run-time checking parallel processing (tasks), exception handling , and generics . Ada 95 added support for object-oriented programming , including dynamic dispatch Ada supports run-time checks in order to protect against access to unallocated memory

Ada-Spain was founded in Madrid on July 1987 by 120 people from about 30 different industrial and academic organisations throughout Spain. Founding president was Angel Alvarez from the Technical University of Madrid. The purpose of Ada-Spain is to be a forum for individuals and organizations interested in the Ada programming language, in its applications, and in Ada related technologies such as software engineering methods, environments, and tools. From the start Ada-Spain wanted to fulfill the need for an easily identifiable contact point within Spain for the international Ada community. As evidence of their desire to actively contribute to the promotion of Ada in the international sense, Ada-Spain hosted the 1989 Ada-Europe Conference. Around 480 attendants gathered in Madrid for this event, making it the largest attended Ada-Europe Conference ever. Ten years later, again Ada-Spain hosted the 1999 Ada-Europe International Conference on Reliable Software Technologies hold this time in Santander. Currently Ada-Spain has 4 institutional members and some 350 individual members. A good proportion of these individual members are

    http://www.dwheeler.com/lovelace/s1s1.htm
Section 1.1 - What is Ada?
Ada is a computer programming language originally designed to support the construction of long-lived, highly reliable software systems. Its design emphasizes readability, avoids error-prone notation, encourages reuse and team coordination, and it is designed to be efficiently implementable. A significant advantage of Ada is its reduction of debugging time. Ada tries to catch as many errors as reasonably possible, as early as possible. Many errors are caught at compile-time by Ada that aren't caught or are caught much later by other computer languages. Ada programs also catch many errors at run-time if they can't be caught at compile-time (this checking can be turned off to improve performance if desired). In addition, Ada includes a problem (exception) handling mechanism so that these problems can be dealt with at run-time.
    Who uses Ada?
Ada was originally designed for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) for real-time embedded systems. Ada is the most commonly used language in U.S. weapons systems modernization (more information about the DoD use of Ada is available).

    http://stwww.weizmann.ac.il/G-CS/BENARI/books/pcp.html
    Principles of
    Concurrent and Distributed Programming

    Preface
The field of concurrent programming has seen an explosive expansion since the publication of my previous book Principles of Concurrent Programming . Two factors have dictated the need for an entirely new text: the increasing importance of distributed programming and the routine use in industry of languages containing primitives for concurrency such as Ada and occam. The aim of the book remains unchanged: it is an introductory textbook on concurrent programming that focuses on general principles and not on specific systems. The student who masters the material will be prepared not only to read the research literature, but also to evaluate systems, algorithms and languages from a broad perspective.
The intended audience includes advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate students, as well as practicing software engineers interested in obtaining a scientific background in this field. The book assumes a high level of `computer maturity', such as would be achieved by 2-3 years of a computer science major or practical experience. At the very least, courses in data structures, programming languages and computer architecture should be required prerequisites.
The scope of the material has been limited to concurrent execution of processes, exclusing the very low-grained concurrency of large parallel computers and at the other extreme the very high-grained concurrency of computer networks. Within this scope, the choice of material has been guided by pedagogical considerations. An algorithm, language or system is described because it demonstrates some fundamental concept or unusual behavior. Pointers to the current state of the art are given in the references.
