On the other hand, although both acupressure and acupuncture have been proposed as weight-loss aids, neither has been found effective during clinical trials. Likewise, the contention that acupressure strengthens disease resistance has not been confirmed by any scientific evidence of improved immune function. Reports that the technique can ease breathing for patients with chronic obstructive lung disease also seem premature.
How the Treatments Are Done
Often called "acupuncture without needles" acupressure seeks to remedy illness through the application of deep finger pressure at points located along an invisible system of energy channels called meridians. Shiatsu is the Japanese version of acupressure. Tuina is a Chinese variation that involves more massage-like kneading motions. Acupressure may be performed on a floor mat or massage table, and the person receiving the treatment usually wears light, loose clothing. Practitioners may administer pressure to various points using elbows and feet as well as thumbs and fingertips. Treatment Time: A typical session lasts 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Introduction Acupressure is a safe and gentle alternative therapy used to relieve symptoms from many common disorders. Unlike some forms of Western medicine, this therapy does not involve the use of any invasive techniques. A skilled practitioner simply uses their thumbs and fingers (sometimes the elbow) to exert pressure to specific body points. Acupressure is closely associated with other forms of Oriental medicine such as acupuncture and shiatsu. The philosophy of Oriental medicine originated about the year 600 BC when Taoism was developed; beliefs that center on the human connection to nature. It is believed the changes in nature (i.e. weather) impact human lives mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Oriental practitioners believe disease is internal (emotional), external (weather), or other, such as trauma or the effects from an unhealthy lifestyle. Many changes impact the body on a daily basis and affect the flow of Qi, or vital energy. Chinese medical theory sets forth to correct this balance and produce harmony within the body.

Acupressure Applies the same theory, principles and practice as acupuncture, by using finger pressure instead of needles. Acupressure is a powerful and effective healing technique when applied by a therapist who has studied Chinese Medicine. However, because it is a non-invasive therapy, it may be applied by anyone, and is especially suited to use by an animal's own guardian for relieving anxiety or tension. It is also a valuable follow-up to acupuncture treatment.

... Complementary Medicine Introduction Acupressure involves pressure points on the body with fingers or hands to alter the internal flow of a supposed vital force or energy called chi (pronounced "chee"), strengthening it, calming it or removing a blockage of the flow. Acupressure is one of a number of treatment methods regularly used in Traditional Chinese Medicine, or TCM, a system of healthcare that originated in China thousands of years ago, which is still widely practiced in Asian countries today. According to TCM, acupressure points are aligned along 14 body meridians, or pathways. Twelve of the meridians are bilateral, that is, identical versions of them (with the same sets of points) exist on both sides of the body. The other two are unilateral, running along the midline of the body. The 14 meridians do not correspond to any known physiological processes or anatomical structures in the body, such as nerves or blood vessels. Nevertheless, some well-controlled studies suggest that acupressure can be effective for a number of health problems, including nausea, pain and stroke-related weakness. A single point may be pressed for relief from a particular symptom or condition, or to promote overall well-being of the body. A series of points can be worked on in a specific order

Dr. Metz's Slim World of Sandals
Mr. Cheese says we have a serious problem. Over the years business people, not doctors, have stated unequivocally that certain products will rid the world of disease, or relieve suffering. There is a problem here, and it's with the advertising media that goes along with these claims, because the more people they convince to believe in those claims, the more money they will make. No matter how ridiculous the claims, people out there will still believe them. Imagine the sudden appearance of certain obesity product like this link for a wristband marketed by Lifestyle Fascination - $69.95 U.S.... or is it $79.95? Since the item can be purchased anywhere in the world, including Canada, why would the company marketing the device protest criticism of it up here in the "land of the free and the home of the fat and gullible". Could it be that they have to protect their interests, and the interests of the television network that supported them with a nationwide blitz on July 30, 1998? I can no longer name the device, nor can I point my site to any place on this planet where there is the slightest chance that someone else might have an opinion about the particular product. I can't even describe it because I am presently involved in legal proceedings because I said the naughty words on my web page that the advertising for the product was a scam.

In addition, I practiced the Harry Aron’s method of hypnosis for many years, focusing on stress management, weight loss, and smoking cessation, serving both individuals and groups of employees at large corporations. I discovered the art of Jin Shin Jyutsu through a friend in 1985. After receiving sessions, I knew Jin Shin Jyutsu would always be an integral part of my life and have practiced Jin Shin self-help ever since. Prior to discovering Jin Shin, I suffered from a herniated disc, which caused a great deal of pain. As a result of Jin Shin sessions, my back became stronger, more structurally aligned, pain free, and the cramping in my legs ceased. I experienced relief from food allergies and began to enjoy food again, with a renewed sense of well-being.

What is it? How to do it Headache cure Nausea cure
    What is it?
Acupressure involves applying pressure with the fingertips or thumb on points along the body's acupuncture meridians.
    How to do it
Locate the point with your finger or thumb. This can be any tender point or an acupoint from an acupressure book (see our reading list for suggestions). Apply pressure perpendicularly to the point or by making small rotations. Release the pressure. Repeat this touch-press-release sequence for another 30 seconds. Repeat the whole sequence two or three times a day until you feel better.
    Headache cure
Apply acupressure to the point 'large intestine 4'. This is located on the hands at the end of the crease when the index finger and thumbs are closed together.
    Nausea cure
Apply acupressure to the point 'pericardium 6'. This is on the inside of the wrists, three finger widths above the first wrist crease and in the middle of the two tendons.

Choosing a Practitioner Cost and Coverage Acupressure is an ancient form of massage that is one of the treatment methods used in Traditional Chinese Medicine. The goal of acupressure (as well as other Chinese Medicine treatments), is to encourage the movement of qi ("life energy") through the 14 channels (meridians) inside the body. Chinese Medicine theory states that the constant flow of qi through these channels is essential for a person to keep their health. If this energy flow is blocked, the body can no longer maintain the balance that is needed to maintain high energy and deal with health issues. Benefits Acupressure can be very effective in helping with nausea and vomiting after surgery or invasive medical procedures. Acupressure can also help in reducing the pain.

Acupuncture has been practised in China for thousands of years, and it's growing in popularity in the West as a treatment for pain relief and other disorders. Anne Woodham explains why. Acupuncture is an important treatment in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), an ancient system of healing at least 4,000 years old. Symptoms of illness are regarded as signs of 'disharmony,' or a disruption in the flow of 'chi', or 'vital energy,' which is said to run through the body in a network of invisible channels known as 'meridians.' In order to restore the flow of chi, acupuncturists insert fine, advertisement
stainless steel sterile needles into the 365 or so specific points ('acupoints') on the meridians where chi is concentrated and thought to enter and leave the body. The needles are inserted to a depth of 4-25 mm and may be left in place for a few seconds, a few minutes or very occasionally as long as an hour, depending on the diagnosis. What to expect
Usually a number of acupoints are used, and you may have 6 to 12 needles inserted at different acupoints at the same time. The procedure is usually painless, though you can feel a slight tugging sensation when the practitioner tweaks the needle for additional stimulation.

    Needle points
Traditional Chinese medicine is based on the belief that health depends on a vital energy, called qi (pronounced "chee"), which is thought to flow through pathways in the body, called meridians. These meridians are like rivers that nourish the body, and an obstruction along one them is like a dam that blocks the natural flow of energy, creating pain and disease. Also important are the opposing forces of yin and yang, which, when balanced, are said to work together with qi to promote physical and mental wellness. The insertion of needles into precise points on the skin is believed to unblock energy flow, balance yin and yang, and restore health. There are more than 2,000 such acupuncture points on the body.
"Acupuncture is becoming increasingly popular with medical patients in Western countries as a way to control pain and relieve certain other symptoms, such as the nausea caused by chemotherapy."
Western scientists have found it hard to study meridians, since they don't exactly correspond to nerve or blood circulation pathways. As a result, some don't believe that meridians exist at all. Nevertheless, several studies have found that acupuncture used along with mainstream medicine can have real benefits, such as helping to relieve pain and reduce the nausea and vomiting of chemotherapy. One theory is that acupuncture stimulates the production of endorphins, chemicals in the body that are natural pain-relievers. However, there is no evidence that acupuncture alone is effective for treating or preventing cancer.

A series of exercises is taught which strengthen and maintain the meridians or energy channels of the body that affect all the major organs. Acupressure or Do-in have been used in the Far East for thousands of years to treat disease, but this poorly understood science has only gained wider acceptance in the West in recent times. Chinese medicine emphasizes personal responsibility for one's health, unlike much of Western medicine.
