ABOUT ACUPRESSURE
Acupressure is the art of assessing and then releasing the blocked or congested energy centers, thus making way for a symmetric flow of energy. Acupressure is an ancient practice and has been practiced in India and China for centuries. Traditionally, Asian cultures conceived the points as junctures of special pathways that carry the human energy.

HOW IT WORKS?
Stimulating the Acupressure points with pressure, triggers the release of endorphins, which are the neurotransmitters that relieve pain. As a result, pain is blocked and the flow of blood and oxygen to the affected area is increased. This causes the muscles to relax and promotes healing.

Acupressure
Developed in Asia over 5,000 years ago, acupressure is an ancient healing therapy that utilizes fingers to depress key locations on the skin's surface to prompt healing withing the body. Similar to acupuncture, acupressure uses the same reference points on the body that release muscular stress; thus encouraging better blood circulation.
Acupressure is very beneficial as it can relieve pain and bring the body back into harmonious balance. Acupressure's healing ability promotes stress reduction, improves circulation, relaxes the body and strengthens the immune system. Acupressure can effectively be used to alleviate acute and chronic conditions such as arthritis, headaches, spinal-muscular pain, and sinus complications. Also a preventative therapy, acupressure is good for fatigue as well. Overall, acupressure is an excellent healing therapy for whole well-being mind, body and spirit.
Two techniques of acupressure are the "Shiatsu," and the "Jin Shin." Shiatsu acupressure, the most commonly used therapy, is notated for its vigorous and firm pressure application; while, the Jin Shin acupressure technique is a more gentle form whereby points are softly held for a moment or two. A typical acupressure session is done in a relaxing environment and does not require removal of the client's clothing. If you or someone you know is seeking an alternative method of healing, we have a selection of accredited acupressure therapists to choose from here, at Holistic Junction.

Complementary and Alternative Therapies For Cancer Patients Acupressure This treatment modality is thought to promote wellness and optimize overall health. Acupressure should be used with, not in place of, standard cancer therapy. What does acupressure involve? Acupressure is a non-needle variation of acupuncture involving deep finger pressure on acupoints and is similar to Japanese shiatsu. Rooted in the principles of traditional Chinese medicine, acupressure is performed to release muscular tension, promote the circulation of blood and restore the flow of qi, the body's vital energy, along channels in the body. Acupressure has the advantage of being a "self-help" remedy because, through the use of guidebooks, you can perform acupressure on yourself. How is acupressure thought to promote wellness and optimize overall health? Acupressure is believed to be effective in reducing tension and other stress-related ailments such as headaches and muscle aches, increasing circulation and enabling the body to relax deeply.

What is "Jin Shin Do " Acupressure?
"Nagging" pain, "controlled" tension, "pentup" frustration, "repressed" emotions — we may spend so much time resisting "negative" feelings that we become afraid of feeling at all. Now there is a simple, gentle technique — Jin Shin Do— that offers a practical way of dealing with daily stress. Because it addresses both physical and emotional tension and pain, this "Bodymind Acupressure" technique is rapidly gaining acceptance around the world. Jin Shin Do ("The Way of the Compassionate Spirit") is a unique synthesis of traditional Japanese acupressure techniques, classic Chinese acupressure theory, Reichian segmental theory, Taoist philosophy and Qigong exercises. Developed by Iona Marsaa Teeguarden, M.A., L.M.F.C.C., this sensible therapy outlines tension points associated with common physical problems and with distressing feelings like anxiety, depression, guilt and anger. It teaches points and exercises that help release physical and emotional tensions. Best of all, it helps one learn to transform, rather than repress, painful feelings — leading to a more joyful way of life and the realization of one's full potential. "Acupressure" refers to any technique using finger pressure on "acupoints" to reduce stress and balance the body energy. An "acupressure" method may be simple and symptomatic, or sophisticated and deeply therapeutic. Jin Shin Do covers both ends of this spectrum, for it can be used both as a selfhelp tool and as a professional therapeutic method. It brings about pleasurable, deep relaxation and increased awareness of both body and psyche. Jin Shin Do contrasts with acupuncture in the absence of needles, and because one individual is touched by another in a highly supportive way which evokes the feeling of being held, cradled and safe. It contrasts with Shiatsu in being a more slowpaced method and focusing more on deep release of muscular armoring.

Acupressure
Definition
Acupressure is a type of Oriental healing art based on ancient Japanese and Chinese medicine. A practitioner puts pressure on specific points on the body with his or her fingers in order to relieve pain and discomfort, prevent tension-related ailments, and promote good health. Purpose
The purpose of acupressure is to promote the body's own healing power. When key acupressure points on the surface of the skin are pressed, muscular tension is released, and the circulation of blood and the body's vital life energy, which the Chinese call chi , is promoted. Acupressure can be used to treat numerous conditions. Among them are effects of daily stress headaches , neck and shoulder pain, aches and pains, allergies , menstrual difficulties, fatigue, anxiety insomnia , digestive problems, nausea, and back pain. Precautions
Acupressure should not be used for certain conditions that require medical care, such as serious burns , ulcers, or infections. Caution should be taken with the use of abdominal pressure points, especially when the patient is ill. The abdominal area often is avoided when the patient has a life-threatening illness, such as intestinal
