Many of the district's children live in poverty (72 percent of the district's students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch). And yet, as former art curriculum specialist Richard Doornek told the study's visiting team, "For a large urban district, we have incredibly healthy programs." Over four days spent with school administrators and educators, research team members saw for themselves just how vibrant MPS's programs - especially its arts programs - are. The Local Context For more than 150 years, Milwaukee Public Schools have demonstrated a strong commitment to the arts in education. Indeed, innovative arts education is a trademark of MPS education. Not only does each school have budget line items for the arts programs, but the community, parents, the school board, and partnerships round out the resources that MPS creatively utilizes to provide model arts programming throughout Milwaukee's schools.

Staff Biographies Marisol Cunnington ACE Executive Director Marisol Cunnington is a second-year Master of Public Administration (MPA) student concentrating in Advanced Policy Analysis at the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA). Before serving as the Executive Director of ACE, Marisol worked in program evaluation and research while earning a Master of Arts in Development Psychology at Teachers College, Columbia University. Her recent research focuses on staff turnover and retention in early childhood education. Marisol enjoys working with ACE because it is a unique forum for Columbia University students to build relationships within the larger community while learning about the operation of a nonprofit organization first-hand. She is pleased to have the opportunity to learn more about managing a nonprofit during her time at ACE, improving skills that range from managing day-to-day program operations to creating long-term organizational strategies and goals. Prior to beginning graduate studies, Marisol worked in social services and spent a year serving with VISTA, the domestic arm of the Peace Corps. As a VISTA volunteer, she coordinated an after-school program and organized community service events for a nonprofit in Northern California. Through these experiences, she realized how much she enjoyed community-building work and chose to focus her studies on program development and policy-analysis.

http://www.co.ramsey.mn.us/cm/ace/index.asp
Ramsey County ACE Program Quick Links Contact Directory CED Home County News Site Map ... Home Page PROGRAM DESCRIPTION "All Children Excel" (ACE) builds resiliency in children under age 10 whose early onset delinquency indicates they are at high risk for negative developmental outcomes including serious and violent offending, substance abuse, school failure, teen pregnancy, and welfare dependency. This is the 8 % of delinquent children predicted, as adolescents, to commit over 70 % of serious and violent juvenile crime. Each child who stays on this path will cost taxpayers $1.7 to $2.3 million over the course of his or her lifetime. Single-focus, short-term interventions are inadequate to the needs of multi-problem populations. Through research, ACE determined that what works is a two-pronged approach: a county-sponsored intervention that integrates mental health, criminal justice, education and child welfare services plus intensive and sustained casework that blends risk reduction with building protective factors in the parents, children, school, and community. ACE is one of only a handful of science-based programs worldwide that identifies and promotes healthy development in this target population of multi problem children and families. This award-winning program has the potential to reduce racial disparities in developmental outcomes and break the cycle of incarceration, neglect, domestic violence and poverty that perpetuates risk from one generation to the next.

1. What is a Jupiter Ace ?
A Jupiter Ace was a home micro produced at the peak of the home computer boom in the early eighties. It was unique in being the only home micro which used Forth as its standard programming language. The standard Jupiter Ace came with 3k of RAM, of which 1k was available for programs, and 8k of ROM. The keyboard was a springy rubber keyboard not dissimilar to the ZX Spectrum, but with smaller keys. The display was 32 x 24 monochrome, with 128 different characters allowed, both in normal and reverse. Sound was provided by an internal buzzer. There was a 300 baud / 1500 baud tape interface.

ACE 32 The Jupiter ACE Emulator for MSDOS Last updated 3rd November 1997 by Paul Robson (autismuk@aol.com) Read the The Jupiter Ace FAQ Ace32 is a DOS Emulator for the Jupiter Cantab ACE microcomputer, manufactured in England in the early 80's. It was designed by people who were responsible , in part for the Sinclair ZX80 and ZX81. It was not quite as successful as the Sinclair machines however, and Jupiter Cantab went bankrupt shortly afterwards. It was unique, however , in that is used the FORTH language for programming. The machine has the following specification :-
  • Z80 CPU running at 3.25 MHz
  • 3,19 or 35k RAM (original machines came with 3k).
  • 8k ROM containing the FORTH compiler and editor.
  • 300 / 1500 baud Cassette Interface
  • 32 x 24 Monochrome Graphics , all 128 characters redefinable.
    • 40 key Rubber Keyboard
    • Single channel buzzer.
Thanks are especially due to Adrian Godwin, for providing me with the ROM Image, Michael Tippich, for the WDOSX Dos Extender, and Borland for TASM and TC, which were used to write it. Download ACE32 v1.4 (46,239 bytes)
