Thu Jun 10 00:57:56 2004 Hi, The output from an SQL query is always a table (like you see). Some of the data is repeated in order to "fill" the table. What you need to do is write some code in your presentation layer to format this the way you want to. Something like: If we have records then Create a temporary name storage variable While we still have records If current record's name <> name in temp storage variable then store current name in temporary storage variable write current name write current phone number else write current phone number end if move to next record Loop End if Cheers Ken - Original Message - From: "Jonathan" < j at firebright.com

Visual Basic vba ms access database programming
About the Project : This Visual Basic vba ms access database programming project deals with the selling of real estate properties. This vb application serves as a front-end to maintain the database and performing various operation on the data. About the ms access Project : The various features of this vba access application are 1. It contains a list of properties like Land, house , Restaurant, Hotel , Industry, etc., which are ready for Sale or could given for Rent or Lease. 2. New property could be added to the list of existing ones. Before Adding the application will check with the database for the existence of the property. If existing it will ask for the users approval to add. 3. Records can be deleted from the database if not required also can be edited. 4. Various Search operations can be performed on the data's to filter them based on the user's requirement. Search could be performed based on the 1.Property type 2.Property Status(Availability) 3.Available for(Sale or Rent or lease) 4.Address of the property Ask us to do a similar project There are more projects under the category Visual basic applications and IE toolbars Please click on all of the projects to know more about our skills and our experience.

Microsoft Access Programming Tips
by Jennifer Hodgdon
This article is a growing, random assortment of suggestions related to creating database applications in Microsoft Access. It's aimed at developers with an intermediate to advanced knowledge of Access programming, and is not meant to be systematic or a complete tutorial. In fact, the tips here are generally only starting points, and are rather lacking in detail, with the hope that there is enough detail provided that you can figure out the rest by looking in the Access help files. For a more complete treatment of Access database programming, I recommend the book , by Steven Roman, published by O'Reilly. It's intended for people who are familiar with the Access user interface, who are ready to branch out into database design and programming, and it is also an excellent reference for a senior-level developer. If you have any suggestions, comments, questions (including requests for more details), or corrections related to this article please contact Poplar ProductivityWare.

These common thoughts are expressed in a shared public language, consisting of shared signs ... a sign has a "sense" that fixes the reference and is "grasped by everybody" who knows the language... Noam Chomsky Language and Thought Database programming has traditionally been a technological Tower of Babel. We are faced with dozens of available database products, and each one talks to our applications in its own private language. If your application needs to talk to a new database engine, you have to teach it (and yourself) a new language. As Java programmers, however, we should not be worrying about such translation issues. Java is supposed to bring us the ability to "write once, compile once, and run anywhere," so it should bring it to us with database programming as well. Java's JDBC API gives us a shared language through which our applications can talk to database engines. Following in the tradition of its other multi-platform APIs such as the AWT, JDBC provides us with a set of interfaces that create a common point at which database applications and database engines can meet. In this chapter, we will discuss the basic interfaces that JDBC provides.

Access Database Design and Programming covers a lot of ground quickly but lucidly. Steven Roman begins with a description of general principles of database design, then describes the "relational algebra" that defines the meaning of such operations as unions and joins, introduces SQL syntax, and finally dives into the details of using VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) to write Access code. The result is a single book that can teach you all the basics of building database applications in Access. Portions of the book are heavy with logical equations whose effects can be hard to visualize, but Roman's judicious use of sample data makes it much easier to follow the operations being described.

Tip: Database Programming With MSDE Access databases are relatively inexpensive but they place limits on database size and performance for many users. SQL Server provides much higher size limits and much better performances, supporting almost any number of concurrent users, but it can be very expensive. Unfortunately there are some non-trivial differences between the way you program with Access databases and SQL Server. That means you cannot write an application using Access and then easily upgrade to SQL Server if necessary. Enter MSDE (Microsoft Data Engine). MSDE is a restricted version of SQL Server. It has some size limitations similar to those of Access databases but the data model is the same as SQL Server's. That means you can build your application using MSDE and then easily upgrade to SQL Server if necessary. MSDE is available for free if you have one of several products including Access, SQL Server, Visual Basic 6 Professional or Enterprise editions, or almost any other development product (C++, J++, Visual InterDev, FoxPro). MSDE is also included in the Visual Studio.NET Beta and Microsoft sources say it will be included in all editions of Visual Studio.NET. It looks like this is Microsoft's plan for small databases in the future. Get more information, check availability, and download MSDE

Making Access More Accessible
From an industry observer's point of view, Microsoft Access-97 is a potent symbol of many of the things that have made Microsoft despised, feared, and enormously successful: determination, persistence, nearly unlimited resources, disregard for backward compatibility, contempt for open standards, fragmented design, lack of quality assurance and software engineering, and, of course, the ability to leverage its software suites, massive bankroll, and control of the operating system platform to outmarket, outmaneuver, outlast or simply gobble up the competition. But from a purchaser's point of view, Access is mostly a symbol of Microsoft's unilateral decision to ship its gigantic powerful complex software products with virtually no printed documentation at all. Consequently, the would-be Access developer's first act is typically to run down to the nearest technical bookstore and try to find something that explains how the darn thing works. Unfortunately, the third-party market for Microsoft Access books is split between simple beginner-oriented books that teach users how to design forms and reports using the built-in wizards and controls, and recycled Visual Basic books that describe Access as a sort of Visual Basic clone with some grafted-on database function calls. There has been, until now, a conspicuous absence of books that approach Access from a database analyst and developer's point of view books that explain how Access implements relational database concepts, its data definition language, its object model (such as it is), and its degree of compliance with ANSI standard SQL.

    Summary
If Java ever needed a Trojan horse to successfully invade the corporate IT departments' inner sanctums, it has found one in JDBC. Equipped with JDBC, Java enables the creation of cheap, platform-neutral thin clients that can fully exploit legacy databases. This ability is nothing short of dynamite, so you would expect a few books out there to concentrate on JDBC and database programming. Indeed, there are more than a few Java books that sport "JDBC" and/or "Database" in their title, and in this review, I'll show you which are worth the trees they're printed on. (4,300 words) By

      Introduction
A database is a repository of information managed by a database engine which ensures integrity of data and fast access to the data. A very common implementation of a database is a Relational Database Management System ( RDBMS ). To users the information in a database can be accessed by using Structured Query Language ( SQL ) a database language common to most databases. However SQL only provides commands to access and manipulate the data in the database. For any complex application, there commonly is a need for conditions, branching, and loops. None of these are a part of the SQL language. In order to fill this gap many common programming languages allow integration with SQL through a common library such as Open Data Base Connect ( ODBC ), Object Linking and Embedding (

takes you behind the details of the Access interface, focusing on the general knowledge necessary for Access power users or developers to create effective database applications. When using software products with graphical interfaces, we frequently focus so much on the interface that we forget about the general concepts that allow us to understand and use the software effectively. In particular, this book focuses on three areas:
