We're now running three-day (not four-day) competitions at each site.
Each team may choose one of these phases: Dallas, May 24 - 26 OR
Washington, D.C., May 30 - June 1 OR
Chicago, IL June 7-9
We provide six guaranteed preliminary round matches for every team. With an option of locales, teams can choose a place that's fun to visit. With a choice of dates, schools with a conflict (e.g. graduation) in one time frame may simply select another date. At the expense of Questions Unlimited, the winners of the Dallas and D.C. phases of the tournament (four players and a coach) will be transported to Chicago, to compete in the final rounds of the third (June 7-9) phase of the competition.

There are several different formats of Quiz Bowl, but they generally share the following rules for playing. (See Formats below) Two teams of (typically) 4 players each sit at a buzzer set, which is like a set of TV game show buzzers. Anyone who rings or buzzes in prevents anyone else from doing so. If a round is timed, a countdown timer is used. Each game is played with a packet of questions, which a moderator reads.

2005 National Middle School Science Bowl Winners of the Academic Competition
Honey Creek Middle School Wins National Science Competition Golden, Colo., June 25, 2005 - Four middle school students from Honey Creek Middle School in Terre Haute, Ind., showed their mastery of science today, winning the National Middle School Science Bowl. Winners of the model hydrogen fuel cell car competition also were announced today with Smith Middle School from Chapel Hill, N.C., taking home the trophy for the fastest model car. Each of the winners topped 23 other competing teams in this battle to be the best and brightest among the country's young science students. During a daylong round robin and double elimination competition, the Honey Creek team of Raj Bhuptani, Joseph Botros, John Ryan and Pardha Ponugoti successfully answered tough questions about life sciences, physical science, earth sciences and math that could stump most of the U.S. adult population. These whiz kids beat out the team from Amarillo, Texas, in the final round of competition. The team from St. Andrew's Episcopal School earned second place, while Lincoln Middle School of Gainesville, Fla. came in third. In addition, organizers gave a civility award to Albuquerque Academy of Albuquerque, N.M., for showing the most positive spirit. A complete list of winners and participants follows.
