Wodehouse wurde als Sohn von Eleanor Wodehouse (geb. Deane) und Henry Ernest Wodehouse (1845–1929), einem britischen Richter in Hong Kong , w¤hrend eines Besuchs seiner Mutter in Guildford geboren. 1914 heiratete er Ethel Wayman, die eine Stieftocher, Leonora, mit in die Ehe brachte. Wodehouse hatte keine eigenen Kinder. Obwohl Wodehouse und seine Werke zumeist als sehr britisch betrachtet werden, verbrachte er nach 1914 den GroŸteil seiner Zeit in GroŸbritannien und den USA. 1934 zog er nach Frankreich um eine Doppelbesteuerung seiner literarischen Arbeit durch die US-amerikanischen und britischen Beh¶rden zu vermeiden. Als der Zweite Weltkrieg ausbrach, blieb er in seinem neuen Heim in Le Touquet . Nach der deutschen Invasion in Frankreich wurde er zun¤chst in Belgien und anschlieŸend in Oberschlesien interniert. Nachdem er f¼r seine Mitgefangene St¼cke geschrieben hatte, war er im Anschluss f¼r einen deutschen Radiosender t¤tig, der w¤hrend des Kriegs ein auf US-B¼rger ausgerichtetes Programm ausstrahlte. Dies f¼hrte sp¤ter zu einer Kontroverse um seine T¤tigkeit w¤hrend des Krieges.
