AUDIOBOOK DESCRIPTION It is 1764, Naples, Italy. A young aristocrat is about to stumble onto one piece of the great pattern. As witness to a vicious assassination and victim of his passion for the beautiful daughter of his enemy, young Sigismundo Celine is forced to begin a mystical odyssey amidst an ageless clash of Freemasons, M.A.F.I.A. and the Illuminati.
THE HISTORICAL ILLUMINATUS CHRONICLES Before Dan Brown, Umberto Eco and The X-Files there was Robert Anton Wilson and The Historical Illuminatus Chronicles. Beginning in 1982 with The Earth Will Shake , Wilson set out to trace the conspiratorial and philosophical underpinnings of Western history. By the third and final novel, the Chronicles exposed the historical cross-currents of Freemasonry, the American Revolution, Rosicrucians, the Marquis de Sade and the Illuminati, revealing a saga as elaborate and startling as history ought to be!

Extrapolative projections into the future by today's outstanding visionaries Robert Anton Wilson Future Magazine, November 1978 According to the actuarial tables used by insurance companies, if you are in your 20s now you probably have about 50 years more to live. If you are in your 40s, you have only about 30 years more and if you are in your 60s your life-expectancy is only about 10 years. These tables are based on averages, of course — not everybody dies precisely at the median age of 72.5 years — but these insurance tables are the best mathematical guesses about how long you will be with us. Right? Wrong. Recent advances in gerontology (the science of aging, not to be confused with geriatrics, the treatment of the aged) have led many sober and cautious scientists to believe that human lifespan can be doubled, tripled or even extended indefinitely in this generation. If these researchers are right, nobody can predict your life expectancy. All the traditional assumptions on which the actuarial tables rest are obsolete. You might live a thousand years or even longer. Of course, science-fiction people are just about the only audience in the country not staggered by the prospect of longevity. We've been reading about it for decades, and such superstars as Heinlein, Clarke and Simak have presented the subject very thoughtfully in several novels. But . . . longevity in this generation? In lecturing around the country on this topic, I have found even some SF freaks find that a little far out.

R.I.P., Robert Anton Wilson
14 January 2007, 3:56 PM I just learned that Robert Anton Wilson died on Thursday. I knew he'd been in ill health lately, but hadn't known quite how ill, and hadn't been following his blog I first picked up my father's copy of The Eye in the Pyramid , book 1 of Wilson's and Robert Shea's Illuminatus! trilogy, when I was about 14; I think it was the summer between 8th and 9th grade, summer of 1982. I read the whole trilogy avidly though not linearlyI jumped around a lot, picking up whichever volume I was reading at any given moment (this was the 1975ish Dell three-volume mass-market-paperback edition, before the three-in-one edition was published), opening to a random page, and reading a few pages before trying to find where I had left off before. I don't think it would be too much of a stretch to say that Illuminatus! changed my life. Partly that was because it was among the first sexually explicit works of fiction I had read. Not the first I'd encountered, but among the first. The reason I'm pretty sure I was reading it that particular summer is that I remember telling another kid, on the job I had that summer, that it was about "sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll," in an attempt to make it sound interesting to more mainstream tastes than mine. But there was lots more. It was my introduction to all sorts of things: conspiracy theories, experimental prose (I don't think I knew at the time how much they were borrowing from Joyce), anarchism (and libertarianism, though I don't think I knew that's what it wasthe anarchism stuck, the libertarianism didn't), Discordianism and other mock religions, synchronicity, Aleister Crowley

Venture further into Wilson's oeuvre and you'll find equally prescient material on longevity research; you'll likely even stumble across source materials that inspired Dan Brown to write The DaVinci Code "I think I'm the most ripped-off artist of our time," says Wilson, seated in the living room of a modest Capitola apartment adorned with an array of pookahs, Buddhas and at least one Loch Ness monster. "People keep coming out with books 30 years afterbooks on things I wrote aboutand they all become bestsellers. "I wrote about them too early," says Wilson, raising a thin arm and shaking his finger to emphasize his point: "Don't be premature."

Robert Anton Wilson, 74, Who Wrote Mind-Twisting Novels, Dies

By DENNIS HEVESI Published: January 13, 2007 Robert Anton Wilson, an author of “The Illuminatus! Trilogy” — a mind-twisting science-fiction series about a secret global society that has been a cult classic for more than 30 years — died on Thursday at his home in Capitola, Calif. He was 74. His death was confirmed by his daughter Christina Pearson. The author of 35 books on subjects like extrasensory perception, mental telepathy, metaphysics, paranormal experiences, conspiracy theory, sex, drugs and what he called quantum psychology, Mr. Wilson wrote the trilogy with his friend Robert J. Shea in the late 1960s, when both were editors at Playboy. The books — “The Eye in the Pyramid,” “The Golden Apple” and “Leviathan” — were all published in 1975 by Dell Science Fiction. They never hit the best-seller lists, but have never gone out of print. Mr. Shea died in 1994. Inspired by a thick file of letters that the authors received from conspiracy buffs, the trilogy traces the conflict between the Illuminati and the Discordians. The Illuminati are elite authoritarians who pull the puppet strings of the world’s political establishment while seeking to become super-beings by sucking the souls from the masses. The Discordians resist through convoluted tactics that include a network of double agents.

Paradigm Shift Interview by Philip H. Farber
We think many of our readers are already familiar with the work of Robert Anton Wilson . If you're not hoo boy! we are a little envious of you, because you've got the chance to discover for the first time an amazing collection of books including Illuminatus! (with Robert Shea), The Earth Will Shake, The Widow's Son, Prometheus Rising, Cosmic Trigger, Quantum Psychology , and a bunch more. Wilson's novels and non-fiction are guaranteed to blow the cobwebs from your neurons, rattle your cage, yank your chain, and open your eyes. Paradigm Shift recently had the pleasure of conducting the following interview with Dr. Wilson: PHF: What is it that you most like to do with your time these days? Robert Anton Wilson: I like to get stoned and surf the Web. I find all sorts of wonderful wonders, both in text and art. This hobby occupies a few hours a night, three or four nights a week. Otherwise, I enjoy most of what I do but feel more pressure about it. I look after my wife Arlen, who is recovering from a stroke; I shop and cook and houseclean etc.; and I keep working on an encyclopedia of conspiracy theories for Harper Collins. All that has its own rewards, but stoned Websurfing is just pure play... and often educational, too. PHF: Heh heh.... That's a common pastime around here, too. Do you think that the hyperlinked nature of the web encourages a different kind of thinking? If so, does surfing stoned enhance that?

Malaclypse the Younger, Robert Anton Wilson and Kerry Thornley Robert Anton Wilson When I read on BoingBoing this afternoon that he had died, I started digging around the internet, reading and listening Wilson is often pigeon-holed by the same cultural reputations of his friends, namely Timothy Leary and William Burroughs, but Wilson always seemed to me less concerned with edification and more interested in humanization, which is something the world will miss. final entry on his blog , written five days before his death, reads: Various medical authorities swarm in and out of here predicting I have between two days and two months to live. I think they are guessing. I remain cheerful and unimpressed. I look forward without dogmatic optimism but without dread. I love you all and I deeply implore you to keep the lasagna flying. The saddest irony being of course that in the end all we create are additional problems by arguing about problems (never mind that abstract problems are generally self-invented anyway, probably have no practical solution, and even if they did most of us are powerless to implement a real solution outside ourselves and our own narrow lives).
