Webster, John ( c. c.
English dramatist. His reputation rests on two tragedies, The White Devil (1612) and The Duchess of Malfi c. 1613). Though both show the preoccupation with melodramatic violence and horror typical of the Jacobean revenge tragedy , they are also remarkable for their poetry and psychological insight. He collaborated with a number of other dramatists, notably with Thomas Dekker on the comedy Westward Ho c. Born in London, he was the son of a tailor and was apprenticed to the same trade, becoming a freeman of the Merchant Taylors' Company in 1603. But he was also active in the theatre by 1602, working on collaborations and perhaps also acting. His first independent work was The White Devil , printed (and probably first performed) in 1612.

Every effort has been made to make them look identical but some slight differences may exist such as in the font and in page positions. (note: some personal addresses and phone numbers in those documents have been altered to prevent abuse.) In these United States it seems that we only have Free Speech rights as long as the System is able to successfully ignore that speech. On March 12 th 2003, John Webster was served with a Temporary Restraining Order in order to squelch his speech. In July of 2003 that order was made permanent (and affirmed by the Appellate Court in December of 2004). It seems that the system equates "The Free Speech of notifying people working at the San Jose Police Department that they have a Bad Cop in their midst" to "Harassing a City employee at her place of employment". And of course the system has no intent of ever allowing those accusations to be proven.

      • UK Friday, 4 January 2008 The modern commercial broiler is reared in enclosed sheds that may contain 50,000 birds to reach killing weight at an age of 42 days. This rate of production has been achieved mainly by genetic selection for rapid growth, and it has created a number of welfare problems, the most serious of which is "leg weakness": an industry euphemism for a range of painful limb disorders sufficient to cause lameness. Fifteen years ago, I wrote that "approximately one-third of the heavy strains of broiler chicken are in chronic pain for approximately one-third of their lives". This view was shared by the UK Farm Animal Welfare Council (Fawc), who stated: "The current level of leg problems in broilers is unacceptable. The Council intends to look at this aspect of broiler production in five years' time, when significant improvements should be apparent. If no reduction in leg problems is found, we may recommend the introduction of legislation to ensure the required improvements."

In NATURE's HOLY COW, viewers meet John Webster, a British expert on cattle and animal welfare. Webster, a former president of the British Society for Animal Science, was one of the researchers asked by the British government to study the causes and consequences of mad cow disease. NATURE recently spoke with Webster about the past, present, and future of cows from his home, which overlooks one of England's many dairy farms.
In HOLY COW, the Lasater Ranch is used as an example of a more ecologically sustainable and more humane way to raise cattle. Is it the wave of the future?
The typical method of raising beef in the United States probably will continue to spread to other parts of the world, in areas where it makes sense: where the breeding cows can get most of their food out on the open range, and the calves to be slaughtered spend the last part of the cycle being intensively fattened. Often, it's the best use of the land. It's a very effective way of transforming plants we don't eat into something we do like to eat. I'm not saying it's the most admirable method, but that it works very well and is likely to continue.
