Computer Center People Over the Years
As of April 6, 2005 (removed dead URLs, added info about people leaving) - Joseph Buchanan
Updated with newer URLs as they are made known to me.

As of July 1, 1997, all Computer Center Personnel became officially part of the ACLIS organization (Academic Computing and Library Information Services - within the Marriott Library). In the summer and fall of 1999, Ed sharp took an early retirement and the Systems and Networking group were transferred to the Telecommunications group on campus. The Help Desk was also affected. By Spring 2000 a significant number of the former UUCC people had either resigned the University or gone to other departments on campus. It is now 2005. Gordon and Chuck have retired and others have moved to the Office of IT (formerly NetCom, formerly Telecommunications). With the move of David Hoisve and Chris Hessing this month, that leaves only three of us here in the Marriott Library: Steve Harper, Jeff Robinson and myself. Johnny Palsgraaf is here, but he left for a few years and I hired him as part of the TAC Center to support Uonline. Also, my son Nathan still works in the Heritage and Sage labs in Fort Douglas as a consultant.
I removed the obvious broken links below, but there are still some that haven't been updated in many years.

http://www.genealogyforyou.com/surnames/bible/3of1.htm
VOLUME I,
Issue 3 September/October/
November 1996 Greetings all. Here is our third issue, We hope you enjoy it. Branches of the Bible Tree When Bridgett and Terri began researching the Bible surname, all indications were that everyone with this surname was descended from the same individual, Hans Adam Biebel. Although we found this concept hard to believe, it was a long time before we were able to locate anyone with the Bible surname that didn't belong to this lineage. We are pleased to be able to tell you that we have found two more Bible families that are not (directly, if at all) connected to the Hans Adam Biebel who emigrated in 1750. Some of you reading this who were having difficulties seeing a connection between your family and the TN/VA bunch, may be connected to one of these other two. In the Annette K. Burgert book on eighteenth century immigrants to America from Alsace that we mentioned in our last newsletter, there was information given on another Biebel immigrant. This was Johann Daniel Biebel, known as Daniel. According to this book, he was also born in Goersdorf, Alsace; but his parents and grandparents were not the same as those of Hans/Johann Adam. We do believe, however, that there surely was some familial connection somewhere further back. J. Daniel was born 30 Oct 1727 and arrived in America in 1750 on board the ship "Edinburgh". He married Maria Margaret Grob on 14 May 1754 in Lancaster, PA. They had 9 children. Daniel Bible died in Lancaster, PA on 2 Sept. 1773. (records from Trinity Lutheran Church in Lancaster) Margaret died 24 Apr 1800 in Lebanon, PA. There were 5 children (1 son and 4 daughters) living at that time, according to what was written in the church records at the time of her death.

INTRODUCTION SERIES I: Correspondence, Reports, etc SERIES II: Transcripts of Interviews Concerning Flood Recovery Austin, Sheryl ... SERIES V: News Clippings INTRODUCTION
In April 1997, the Red River of the North, which marks the border between North Dakota and Minnesota, flooded. The immediate effects of the flooding were well covered by the local and national media. But the long-term difficulties of rebuilding homes, businesses, and lives after the flood receded are less well known. Recovery went well into the summer and fall of 1997 in all parts of the region. Recovery continues in many communities now, more than two years after the flood. People who live in the Red River Valley have struggled with the challenges of flood recovery, with problems rebuilding their homes, their businesses, and their sense of security. The materials described in these pages were collected by the Northwest Minnesota Historical Center to document the processes of flood recovery. The core of this collection is the set of oral interview transcripts described in Series II of the inventory. These interviews were undertaken by the Northwest Center with funding assistance from the Minnesota Historical Society. Selected individuals were interviewed over a period of 15 months. These people represented government officials, homeowners, business owners, and others who were asked to describe their perspectives on flood recovery problems. The interviews range in length from one to two hours, and are fully transcribed on paper. In addition to the set of transcripts in this collection, a second set of transcripts is deposited at the Minnesota Historical Society, while a third set is in the collections of the Lake Agassiz Regional Library in northwest Minnesota. Tapes of the interviews are also preserved at the Northwest Center and the Minnesota Historical Society.

Isobel Gunn, by Audrey Thomas
Jump to Comments Many years ago, in what seems like another lifetime, I did an MA in English and wrote my thesis on Audrey Thomas.  Just in case you were wondering, the thesis was called Mother Tongues: Language and Maternity in the Fictions of Audrey Thomas , and one of the eight zillion things I disagreed with my thesis supervisor about was that I had originally written Fiction in the title, and she insisted on Fiction s And that is one reason among many why I never purused a career in Academia. But. I. Digress. Mrs. Blood and Blown Figures , are extremely postmodern and experimental, so much so that I recall one critric saying of Blown Figures that you could call it a book, but not a novel.  Her later work has become much more conventional in form, which I personally (not being a huge fan of postmodern experimentation for its own sake) find allows her fine ear for language and strong characterization to shine through.
