REX STOUT:
This is Stout's output, with year of publication, alternate titles (if any), Swedish titles, and the detective of the story. One short story collection and one novel (nos. 55-56) were published well after Stout's death. Two short stories have never been collected, as far as I know.

"It is always a treat to [hear] a Nero Wolfe mystery. The man has entered our folklore" —The New York Times This mystery from one of America's best-loved writers features one of the greatest fictional detectives of all time - Nero Wolfe. An orchid-growing, gourmandizing, demanding genius, Wolfe solves this case with the able assistance of his legman, Archie Goodwin, who narrates with his usual wry humor. In all his years of detecting, the unflappable Nero Wolfe has never encountered an investigation as messy as this one. What began as a clean case of larceny quickly sank into a quagmire of blackmail, broken promises, and cold-blooded murder. Wolfe and Archie must bridge eras and oceans to connect a Wild West lynching to a respected British peer. Only then can they save their beautiful client - and a hotly disputed stake of a cool million dollars. About the Author: Rex Stout (1886-1975), inimitable master of detective fiction, wrote 73 mysteries. His career also included writing three novels, chairing the War Writers' Board, and mobilizing public opinion against the use of nuclear devices.

Learn basic psychological reasoning with Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin, with some assistance from Rex Stout. Much of my site, thus far, has been devoted to propagating the advanced technical logic required to discuss psychology and many related issues sanely. With this document, I am finding room to discuss more simple, day-by-day, relational pragmatics. And as a bonus, comes the fun of visiting the Wolfe household. As usual, I intend to concentrate on the psychology rather than the external life of my target - in this case Rex Stout, Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin, for they are all one person. A writer of Stout’s quality tends to write about his view of the real world, the characters just being ways of expressing those views; they do not have independent lives as ‘characters’. Stories are not much more than conversations in one man’s head.

    32. Rex Stout & Nero Wolfe
David Langford s critical review of rex stout s Nero Wolfe books.
    http://www.ansible.co.uk/writing/rexstout.html
    A Stout Fellow
David Langford flips idly through some 1992 Nero Wolfe reissues.... The point is not so much whether Rex Stout's Nero Wolfe is one of the great detectives. It is that Wolfe and his narrator Archie Goodwin are a good bet for second place in the altogether more exclusive ranks of great detective double-acts (after the inevitable Holmes and Watson). The combination of ponderous, Johnsonian Wolfe with wisecracking Archie remains almost irresistible, almost all the time. Now that the Wolfe books are being reissued in Scribners hardback and Sphere paperback , it's worth a look back at the fat private eye's career. He had a long run despite his vast weight of one-seventh of a ton (the exact figure varies, but not as much as I thought before recalling that the American ton is only a mingy 2000 lb). It starts at the tail-end of Prohibition as Wolfe samples legal alternatives to his usual bootleg beer in the opening scene of Fer-de-Lance (1934), and finishes in the context of his aching wish to help unravel the tangles of Watergate and pin the big one on Nixon ( A Family Affair , 1975, the year of Rex Stout's death at age 89). I prefer to ignore the works by Other Hands which have caused him to shamble massively on beyond the grave, like Tor Johnson in

This is the first of three Nero Wolfe books that involve crime syndicate leader Arnold Zeck and his widespread operations. Zeck – Wolfe's Moriarty – telephones Wolfe to warn him off an investigation that Zeck believes will interfere with his crime syndicate. Each time, Wolfe refuses to cooperate, and anticipates that there will be consequences. In this book, the publisher of a horse racing magazine dies of cyanide poisoning while appearing on a p...
    Champagne for One

When Archie is asked, as a special favor, to stand in for a friend at a dinner party for unwed mothers, murder naturally follows. Nero Wolfe would of course prefer not to be involved, but the obvious suspect wants to hire the duo to find the killer before the police find him. If you're interested in mysteries at all, you have to read at least a few Nero Wolfe novels; Stout inspired so much of what came after him....
    Fer-de-Lance

Wolfe manages to tie together the deaths of a college president and an Italian immigrant and performs one of his prodigious feats of questioning, one that is mentioned in many of the books in the series. There's a lot of snakes in Fer-de-Lance, including the fer-de-lance that gets delivered to Wolfe's door. This is the first Stout book, and so it's a little uneven in places, but still well worth reading for mystery fans....

    37. The William D. Farley Rex Stout Collection
rex stout began publishing in 1914. The first Wolfe book, Ferde-Lance, was his tenth published novel. There are, officially, 47 Wolfe books .
    http://www.seattlemystery.com/Stout/stout.html
var sc_project=2551190; var sc_invisible=1; var sc_partition=24; var sc_security="ef6c918d"; The William D. Farley Rex Stout Collection Access an Excel file with titles, condition, and prices. Bill Farley started his Stout collection casually. He'd first read a Nero Wolfe mystery years before, from libraries in the city or in the military. One day that changed. Looking over a table of used books in – of all places – a music shop, he ran across a Wolfe hardcover. He thought to himself that he'd like to start owning the series. From that tiny seed of a thought grew his collection, as vast as the orchids grown on the top floor of that famous brownstone.
I doubt even Bill knows which came first: the desire to gather the Nero Wolfe books or the idea to be a bookseller, but they became intertwined. As new Stout books were published, he'd buy them. But he also began to match the trade edition – the edition sold in a retail store – with the book club edition. And, as they came out in paperback, he'd buy that edition too. He would buy editions of earlier titles in paperback and hardcover, in any edition that he didn't yet own or thought he didn't already have – or if he thought a given copy was in better condition than what he already have at home.
As you can understand, he was collecting a beloved author in two directions: new releases as they were published and earlier books that he'd missed the first time around. And the earlier books had been out, in some cases, for decades.
