Habitualmente, la literatura samizdat se mecanografiaba en papel de poco gramaje (para que se pudieran hacer el mayor nºmero posible de copias con papel carb³n) y se distribu­a de mano en mano, al principio entre un grupo de amigos de confianza. A partir de ah­ otros mecanografiaban m¡s copias (en esos a±os las fotocopiadoras estaban estrictamente controladas) y las distribu­an clandestinamente. De esta forma circulaban obras de ficci³n, poes­a, memorias, historiograf­a, tratados pol­ticos, peticiones, asuntos religiosos e incluso peri³dicos . Solzhenitsyn, laureado con el Premio Nobel de Literatura en 1970, nació en Kislovodsk en 1918 en el interior de una familia de tradición cristiana ortodoxa. Durante sus años de colegio se destacó como un estudiante aventajado, a tiempo de que se distanciaba de la religión hasta convertirse en ateo y abrazar las ideas comunistas. Posteriormente entró a la Universidad de Rostov donde estudió física, destacándose nuevamente como un estudiante brillante. Sus estudios de física lo llevaron a cuestionar la concepción marxista y reconvertirse en cristiano ortodoxo. Durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial combatió en el frente y fue condecorado en dos oportunidades por su valor. En ese periodo, escribió una carta a un amigo donde cuestionaba algunas de las acciones de Stalin, la misma que fue interceptada y, por ello, enviado a prisión. A la muerte de Stalin y frente a la necesidad de físicos, el Gobierno soviético lo rehabilitó, señalando que la correspondencia en tiempo de guerra no constituía un crimen; sin embargo, los escritos del insigne literato ruso, tales como El primer círculo y Archipiélago Gulag, no gustaron al Gobierno y Alexander Solzhenitsyn fue expulsado del paraíso socialista en el año 1974.
