De ella -con un doloroso recorrido de represión entre medias- acabaría naciendo la perestroika; tras ésta moriría la propia URSS. El más conocido de los dos procesados en aquel sonadísimo juicio, Andrei Siniavski, fallecía ayer en su exilio francés, en el que vivía desde 1973. Disidente hace 30 años, Siniavski se convertiría al final de su vida en un crítico severo del autoritarismo en la Rusia de Boris Yeltsin. En 1966, Siniavski -junto a su amigo Yuli Daniel- era condenado, por escribir «obras antisoviéticas», a siete años de reclusión en la prisión de Potma, cerca de Nizhni Nóvgorod. (Esta ciudad se llamaba entonces Gorki, por ser la cuna del literato al que, curiosamente, Siniavski había dedicado su tesis doctoral tres lustros antes). Su cautiverio se desarrolló en condiciones similares a las de los campos de concentración, ese Gulag cuyo nombre no sería conocido en Occidente hasta que, a principios de los 70, lo reveló Aleksandr Solyenitsin. El moscovita Andrei Donatovich Siniavski, hijo de militante comunista, poseía un irreprochable pedigrí soviético: miembro del Komsomol (juventudes comunistas), matriculado en 1944 en la Facultad de Letras de la Universidad de Moscú, doctorado con su estudio sobre uno de los libros de Gorki (La vida de Klim Samguin), profesor del Instituto Gorki de Literatura Mundial. Pero la detención de su padre en 1951, en plena represión estalinista, sacudió sus creencias y le hizo cambiar de rumbo.

So why are the socialist realists fashionable now? By Tania Branigan. Leonid Shishkin pours two generous glasses of Chablis and waves a hand towards the highlights of his fashionable Moscow gallery. The immense landscape above his desk was commissioned by Stalin's son. The dictator's defence minister, Varashilov, gazes out from a Brodsky portrait propped against the bookcase. High on the wall, tucked above the cabinet, is the most curious of the artworks. At first glimpse it is a simple rural scene, but look closer and half a dozen painters are at work, vying to capture a milkmaid labouring on a collective farm. These were the artists who created one of the most derided bodies of work of all time: socialist realism. Commissioned, supported and controlled by the state, they aimed to picture "reality in its revolutionary development". Needless to say, this did not mean gulags and bread queues; rather, a rosy vision of how society would be - thanks to the Bolsheviks. They did not have much choice. In 1934 the party decreed that socialist realism was the only Soviet artistic method. Officials dictated not only the themes for paintings (hence the endless series of industrial and agricultural workers, party marches and glorious leaders), but also the acceptable style (an obsessively literal rendering) and mood (invariably positive). Often they would order artists to alter tones, remove figures and rework expressions.

Es as­ que se me antoja releer un texto varias veces, texto ya rele­do algunos a±os atr¡s. Luego puedo caer sobre algunas p¡ginas que hab­a puesto ah­, de lado, para m¡s tarde y que a medida que se van acumulando, cambian de lugar y algunos a±os despu©s vuelven a la superficie; sucede cuando intento poner algºn orden en mis papeles. A veces se trata de libros que me prestan o me regalan, tengo esa suerte. Aunque tampoco los leo todos, tambi©n en esto gozo de la misma suerte, no tengo la obligaci³n, no siento ninguna obligaci³n de leer ningºn texto. Lo curioso es que sin obligaci³n sigo leyendo todos los d­as. šltimamente leo mucho, me informo a trav©s de internet. La l³gica judicial Siniavski fue juzgado con otro escritor, Julius Daniel. Estos dos escritores fueron los primeros condenados por un tribunal sovi©tico que no reconocieron su culpa. Desde los famosos juicios estalineanos hasta los brezhneveanos, la l³gica judicial sovi©tica se aparentaba a los tribunales inquisitoriales, el acusado deb­a reconocer su falta, reconocerse culpable formaba parte de la expiaci³n.
