Title: Brainstorm
Subject:
Review/comment: Simply delightful. Shaw makes his point in a witty, humorous manner which is so characteristic of him. The role reversals at the end of the play are a prize catch.
Title: Subject: Nice and easy Review/comment: This short story is very interesting and easy to read. Shaw is basically makes fun of peoples notion of war. He also make fun the idea (most of the people have) about love. Typical thing that one can see in a soup except that he has an extraordinary pragmatic approach to it. Title: Subject: Review/comment: Shaw forces us to think things are deeper than they appear .he also Reminds us that some things are eternal and lasting ..like love ...yet he still plays the fickle turn card of vainity ... . he'd make a great spy ! I laugh out loud at times .. . Others almost bring me to tears ! For someone who writes so well , he delivers a real heartfelt story that still connects .... Always a novel ride !! George Bernard Shaw: Mystic or Atheist?
by Gary Sloan (e-mail: GSloan@liberator.net ) [December 24th, 2004] Shaw (1856-1950) was one of the world’s most celebrated playwrights. Via such plays as Man and Superman Major Barbara Caesar and Cleopatra Arms and the Man Saint Joan Mrs. Warren’s Profession Heartbreak House Candida The Doctor’s Dilemma The Devil’s Disciple Back to Methuselah , and Pygmalion (an adaptation of which became the movie My Fair Lady) , the expatriate Irishman forged a grand repertoire in English second only to Shakespeare’s. Awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1923, long after his days as a struggling artist, Shaw refused the £7000 prize, commenting that “the money is a lifebelt thrown to a swimmer who has already reached the shore in safety.” At his behest, the money was given to the Anglo-Swedish Literary Alliance. “While Jesus fared better than Yahweh, Shaw impugned the doctrines of atonement and universal love. Atonement he deemed a demoralizing and unchristian doctrine...” In his waning years, he became an international icon. In George Bernard Shaw: His Life and Personality Hesketh Pearson describes the adulation: “Whatever he said or did was treated with respect, tinged with awe. When he

SHAW, George Bernard b. 26 July 1856; d. 2 November 1950 George Bernard Shaw is best remembered for his fifty plays and his distinction as an essayist and wit, but he was also an enthusiastic amateur photographer, who began taking photographs in 1898. In a reply to Helmut Gernsheim as to why he had taken up photography, he wrote: "I always wanted to draw and paint. I had no literary ambition: I aspired to be a Michael Angelo, not a Shakespear (sic). But I could not draw well enough to satisfy myself; and the instruction I could get was worse than useless. So when dry plates and push buttons came into the market I bought a box camera and began pushing the button...." Evidently his success earlier on was not of the highest order. In an article written as an introduction to an exhibition by his friend Alvin Coburn (1906) he wrote: "Technically good negatives are more often the result of the survival of the fittest than of special creation: the photographer is like the cod, which lays a million eggs in order that one may reach maturity...." Shaw was an outspoken as well as knowledgeable writer and critic. He was very much against retouching; commenting in a newspaper (17 October 1888) he wrote:

George Bernard Shaw was born on July 26, 1856 in Dublin, Ireland. His father was a corn miller. There was not much money to spend on George’s education and he attended local schools but not university.
In 1876, he moved to London with aspirations to become a writer. During the first two years after coming to London, he studied on his own a great deal at the British Museum. Bernard Shaw started out in his writing career by writing music and drama criticism and novels. At first he was more successful as a journalist. He wrote for “Pall Mall Gazette”. George Shaw would later join the Fabian Society and the Socialist League. He began to give lectures on socialism on street corners. He wrote a series of pamphlets – “Fabian Manifest”,” The True Radical Programme”, “Fabian Election Manifesto”,” The Impossibilities of Anarchism”, ”Fabianism and the Empire” and “Socialism for Millionaires”. Shaw’s pamphlets supported equality of income.
In the early 1900’s, George Shaw also wrote several plays. These plays included political themes and issues concerning poverty and women’s rights. The plays implied socialism could help to solve these and other problem. He wrote “Man and Superman” (1902), “John Bull’s Other Island” (1904) and “Major Barbara” (1905). In 1914 he wrote “Saint John”, which was considered to be one of his masterpieces.

Shavian Alphabet
Origin
The Shavian alphabet is named after George Bernard Shaw and was devised by Kingsley Read. Shaw saw use of the Latin alphabet Shaw's will also stipulated that his play Androcles and the Lion should be printed in the winning alphabet. Few other texts were printed and the alphabet, which became known as Shavian, was never seriously considered as an alternative for writing English.
Notable features
  • There are three types of letters - tall deep and short Tall letters are the equivalent of ascenders in the Latin alphabet (e.g. b, d, f, h), deep letters are the equivalent of descenders (e.g. p, g, j, y) and short letters are all the same height, like the letters a, c, e and i. Consonant letters come in pairs, with the tall one representing an unvoiced consonant and the deep one representing a voiced consonant. The letters for l, r, m and n are the exceptions to this pattern. Vowel letter are all, with only one exception, short. Some come in pairs, others don't
