Holy Eucharist, Batman! Anne Rice gets religion
Vampires are usually her passion, but Anne Rice is getting biblical in her next book, due out in November from publisher Random House. Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt will tell the story of Jesus' early years in his own words. Excerpts of a lengthy letter that will accompany advance review copies of the book this summer are published in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly magazine. "For over 10 years I've wanted to do this book — Jesus in his own words," Rice writes. "For five years, I've been obsessed with how to do it, and for the last three years I've been consumed with nothing else." Rice, who has moved from New Orleans to San Diego, brought the undead back to life in the 1970s with Interview With the Vampire "I'm not a priest," Rice also writes in the letter. "I can't be one. I'll never be able to go to the altar of the Lord and say the words of consecration at Mass, 'This is my body. This is my blood.' No, I can't work that magnificent Eucharistic miracle. But in humility, I have attempted something transformative which we writers dare to call a miracle in the imperfect human idiom we possess. It's to bring Him here in the form a story, and that story is Christ The Lord (Source: Yahoo News) Click here for Everything Anne Rice Email to a Friend Display Latest Headlines Read Archives powered by

Marjorie Dorfman Oct 15, 2006
Who is the woman behind the best-selling Vampire Chronicles and why doe she no longer wirte horror fiction?
Born in New Orleans, author Anne Rice now makes her home in California near her only remaining child, Christopher. Still, the haunted mists and enduring allure of New Orleans is the backdrop for most of her eerie tales of horror. Vampires are an Anne Rice specialty, and she has honed her craft to perfection, much to the appreciation and adoration of her multitude of fans. Anne Rice is a woman who bears many personal burdens. She lost one child, a daughter, aged six, to leukemia. With her overwhelming success, came the unexpected and devastating loss of her husband, Stan Rice, and the onslaught of the silent killer, type one diabetes. Anne Rice's struggles with weight have resulted in gastric-bypass surgery. For the many fans of author of Anne Rice, it is a sad time, for there will be no more vampire tales for them to enjoy. The queen of the horror novel has turned her writing attentions to material of a religious nature. A former atheist, Anne Rice's newly-found faith has prompted her to write only for the Lord.

Vampires to Life of Christ: Anne Rice's Christ the Lord
At this writing, Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt sits at #11 on the definitive New York Times Best-seller List for hardcover fiction books. That's big enough, but the real news is who wrote it: vampire-novelist, self-styled "queen of the damned" Anne Rice, who claims renewed faith and a full-fledged return to her Catholic roots. This is quite a shift, 25 years and 25-odd horror novels later. Whatever your take, Rice's first installment on a project to write the life of Christ—in first-person, boyish narrative—is striking and provocative. Janet Maslin writes in the New York Times that Rice "delivers the only shock effects still available to her, after a career-length cavalcade of kinks: piety and moderation." Christian cultural apologist and professor G. E. Veith believes she has navigated a "perilous project" niftily, maintaining orthodoxy as well as could be expected (see review below). Reformed seminary professor Dr. Derek Thomas questions Rice's incluences and her own understanding of the Christian faith (also below). As with another highly popular contemporary novel, (supposedly) anchored in historical, biblical and creedal bases—The Da Vinci Code (

Changes From Vampire: the Masquerade
In the world of Anne Rice there is no concept of Generation, no Camarilla, no Sabbat and no Clans. Vampires do not Frenzy: there is no Beast and no-one can be Blood Bonded. They do, however, have a Spiritual component that sometimes influences their actions. There is a single 'master vampire' who is very old and Sired all vampires. This is not the same as the Caine situation. The manner in which offspring are weaker than their Sires is not the same as in Vampire: the Masquerade. Anything not explicitly mentioned in these rules is the same as in Vampire the Masquerade.

Undead: Anne Rice Endorses Hillary
By Eric Schulzke
Jan 11th 2008 2:24PM Filed Under:e Hillary Clinton 2008 President Anne Rice, author of the Vampire Chronicles , has reached out to endorse Hillary Clinton, who rose from the dead in New Hampshire after Obama failed to get the stake there in time. It's bad, I know, but when a Gothic horror writer endorses a candidate sometimes compared to a zombie, bad jokes will inevitably flow. For what it's worth, however, Ann is deadly serious about this endorsement:
