Back to roots: eruditor.com works automatically
Ten years ago, everybody expected that on-line shops would work fully automatically: no staff, no stock, no office, just a computer and delivery service from factory to customer. Prices in on-line shops were expected to be extremely low because of minimal costs. Unfortunately, it didn't work. Customers needed help and information and e-shops needed to pay more employees. Costs and prices in e-shops increased. In eruditor.com

He began his literary career as a dramatist, and it was his own wish that the word "dramatist" should stand first in the description of his occupations on his tombstone. He was dramatist first and novelist afterwards, not merely chrono logically but in his aims as an author, always having an eye to stage-effect in scene and situation as well as in dialogue . His first comedy The Ladies' Battle, appeared at the Olympic Theatre in May 1851. It was followed by

Charles Reade, 1814-1884
Victorian Web Home Visual Arts Authors A strong, healthy air of honest and high purpose breathes through nearly all the stories. An utter absence of cant, affectation, and sham distinguishes them. A surprising variety of descriptive power, at once bold, broad, and realistic is one of their great merit. Mr. Reade can describe a sea-fight, a storm, the forging of a horseshoe, the ravages of an inundation, the trimming of a lady's dress, the tuning of a piano, with equal accuracy and apparent zest. . . . Indeed, Mr. Reade wants no quality which is necessary to make a powerful story-teller, while he is distinguished from all mere story-tellers by the fact that he has some great social object to serve in nearly everything he undertakes to detail. More than this I do not believe he is, nor, despite the evidences of something yet higher which were given in Christie Johnstone and The Cloister and the Hearth Justin McCarthy

Charles Reade (1814-1884) , English dramatist, novelist and journalist wrote the historical romance The Cloister and the Hearth While often critical of Reade, George Orwell Harper’s New Monthly Magazine article Charles Reade, A Personal Reminiscence (1884), fondly remembers the noble, unconventional and generous-hearted man who loved to entertain his friends, including Wilkie Collins , in the library of his home at 19 Albert Gate, Knightsbridge, London. It was from there that he wrote; ".. the copious correspondence, the fulminations against injustice, the epistolary diatribes, which made the name of Charles Reade a household word." .~Robert Buchanan The sometimes pugnacious Reade researched extensively and wrote passionately on subjects of social significance along with his many peers including Charles Dickens George Eliot , Benjamin Disraeli and Charles Kingsley Charles Reade was born at Ipsden House, Oxfordshire, England, on 8 June, 1814, one of eleven children of John Reade, an Oxfordshire squire, and Anna Maria Scott-Waring, a devout evangelical. One of his brothers, William Barrington Reade, would become a seaman. Reade was privately educated and then, as per his mother's expectations that he would later enter the church, he enrolled at Magdalen College, Oxford University. He would later become a Dean of Arts and Vice President. In 1842 he was called to the bar but never practiced, though his legal training would serve him well in his later novels that markedly relied on facts and presentation of evidence in argument and style of an advocate. Whilst a student Reade was known for his quasi-bohemian lifestyle, unorthodox dress and views, and ultimately was not interested in becoming ordained.
