He spent most of his time there writing poetry and novels. In 1826 Pushkin was pardoned by the Tsar and allowed to return home after six years of exile. Though both were wounded, only Pushkin died two days later from his injuries.

Pushkin, Alexander Sergeevich (1799-1837), greatest Russian poet, "the Sun of Russian Poetry". On his father's side he was the descendent of a very old but not wealthy family, on his mother's side he was the great-grandson of Abram Petrovich Hannibal, the son of the ruler of an African tribe, who was captured by slave traders and sold to the Russian Tsar Peter the Great, by whom he was named after the famous Hannibal and who raised and educated the bright child and then awarded him with wealth and hereditary nobility. Alexander Pushkin was educated in the privileged school Lyceum, near St. Petersburg. In 1817 he entered diplomatic service, but was dismissed due to his liberal verses and exiled in 1820 to the South of Russia and then, in 1824, to his country estate near Pskov. He was allowed to return by Tsar Nicholas I in 1826. He married Nataly Goncharova in 1832. He was killed on the duel by Baron George D'Anthes de Heckern because of an intrigue involving his wife. Alexander Pushkin is the author of hundreds of verses, poems Ruslan and Ludmila The Prisoner of the Caucasus The Fountain of Bakhcisarai Tzigani , the novel in verse Eugene Onegin , drama Boris Godunov and other works.

Beloved of all Russians, Pushkin wrote lyric poetry, prose, and drama, founding the Russian literary tradition in practically every genre.
self-portrait Pushkin appears in The Master and Margarita in various guises: as the author of Eugene Onegin , the strains of which accompany Ivan on his chase; as the statue Ryukhin sees when he returns to Moscow from Stravinsky's clinic; as the author of The Covetous Knight , which Nikanor Ivanovich sees performed by Kurolesov in his "dream;" and finally as a character often referred to by Soviets in daily life Whether the novel is set in the 1920s or the 1930s, Pushkin would have been on the minds of the Soviet people: 1924 saw the 125th anniversary of the poet's birth, while 1937 was the 100th anniversary of his death. Both were feted in Moscow.
The 1937 Pushkin Jubilee Bulgakov, like all Russians, loved Pushkin, but he felt particularly close to the 19th Century poet because of the latter's relation to the state. Pushkin was several times exiled because his views got him into hot water with the authorities. Tsar Nicholas I became his "personal censor." While working on
