DCCP - Datagram Congestion Control Protocol
DCCP is a new transport protocol being developed by the IETF to provide a connection-oriented, congestion controlled, unreliable transport service. Most applications that require an unreliable transport currently use UDP and ignore congestion issues, causing concerns about congestion collapse in the general Internet if these applications (especially VoIP) get too popular. DCCP is meant to give these applications an opportunity to become good 'Net citizens without forcing them to individually tackle the difficult problems of developing congestion control mechanisms. My main interests are in using DCCP for two-way voice applications. The following contributions are available here:

    ACFL Division 3 final
    Barrowhouse 2-8 Park Ratheniska 1-8
BARROWHOUSE had anticipated playing a final this weekend. Years of work had gone into it and everyone expected them to be there. There was only one problem, wrong final on the wrong day.
They started 2007 as hot favourites for the junior football title but never got going and, much like the Irish rugby team, couldn’t get out of the group.
But on Saturday they showed their potential against a Park Ratheniska who had beaten them in last year’s junior final. It will give the club a healthy shot in the arm and serve as notice to all in ne xt season’s junior grade.
The game wa s ti ght throughout with just a point separating the teams most of the time. Barrowhouse got the dream start with a goal in the fourth minute from Joe Murphy after he soloed in and sent the ball to the corner of the net.
There was a 12 minute gap until the next score but when it came it signalled the way the game was about to go . Donie Kingston, playing one of his first games for the club this season, won a penalty himself and took it, sending it over the bar. The Laois minor player sent over a point from a free shortly after despite Park Ratheniska’s Denis Brennan at full back, Mark Delaney in the centre and Andy Morrin on the wing keeping the Barrowhouse attack out as best that they could.

Index to Glass Negative Portraits in the Erik Overbey Collection There are more than 11,000 glass plate portraits in the Erik Overbey Collection. They date from the 1890s to c. 1915. W. A. Reed was the photographer for portraits taken between 1890 and 1905. Erik Overbey, who began as a photographer in 1905, subsequently purchased the Reed negatives, and both groups came into USA Archives' possession in 1978. Those interested in portraits of Mobilians taken after 1905 should see the Index to Overbey Nitrate (for the years 1905 to 1945) and the Index to Overbey Safety Portraits (for the years after World War II). Researchers should keep in mind that there is some overlap, so, if you are interested in a portrait made in, say, 1949, you should check both the Nitrate and Safety indexes. Or, if you are interested in a portrait taken in 1911, you should check both the Glass and Nitrate indexes. This index is arranged alphabetically by last name. It also lists the subject of the portrait, the size of the negative, the studio, and additional remarks, if any. Please see the key below for an explanation of the various abbreviations used in this index. To order a reprint of one of these portraits, please see our reproduction services page . It will detail the cost, sizes offered, and delivery time. Interested parties can also email the archives at

    Thrillers
The thriller is a broad genre of literature, film, and television. It includes numerous, often overlapping sub-genres. Thrillers are characterized by fast pacing, frequent action, and resourceful heroes who must thwart the plans of more-powerful and better-equipped villains. Literary devices such as suspense, red herrings, and cliffhangers are used extensively.
    Characteristics
Thrillers often take place wholly or partly in exotic settings such as foreign cities, deserts, polar regions, or high seas. The heroes in most thrillers are frequently "hard men" accustomed to danger: law enforcement officers, spies, soldiers, seamen, or pilots. However, they may also be ordinary citizens drawn into danger by accident. While such heroes have traditionally been men, women have become increasingly common. Thrillers often overlap with mystery stories, but are distinguished by the structure of their plots. In a thriller, the hero must thwart the plans of an enemy, rather than uncover a crime that has already happened. Thrillers also occur on a much grander scale: the crimes that must be prevented are serial or mass murder, terrorism, assassination, or the overthrow of governments. Jeopardy and violent confrontations are standard plot elements. While a mystery climaxes when the mystery is solved; a thriller climaxes when the hero finally defeats the villain, saving his own life and often the lives of others. In thrillers influenced by film noir and tragedy, the compromised hero is often killed in the process.

    Tom Phelan, SJ
Tom Phelan, SJ It's nearly ten years since we started the Musik Makers. Over these years many young people have passed through our club. Some have become good musicians, others just play for their own enjoyment and some have given up playing altogether, and to be honest some never learnt much at all. But all were made welcome. As well as music classes, day trips and holidays gave them a sense of belonging. For the Musik Makers music has nothing to do with competition. The man who taught me, Tommy Moore, never, ever charged a penny. Tommy saw it as a gift that was to be passed on to others freely. So I am happy to pass on my limited knowledge of music as well. That's why I'm part of the Musik Makers! Tommy also taught the famous Finbar Furey and I was lucky enough to grow up alongside the Furey Brothers. Music is our way of developing young people and it's not about turning out stars of the music industry, it's about including everyone. That's why we never turned a child away for lack of ability. Natural ability is great and of course we encourage it. Where we've come across it we've set up funded scholarships in schools of music.
