Abstract
The correspondence of an important member of the 'post-beat' West Coast poetry community. The bulk of the collection covers the period from 1957 to 1972. Included are letters, cards, drawings, and poems from Joe Brainard, Robert Creeley, Robert Duncan, Allen Ginsberg, Jack Spicer, Lewis Warsh, and Philip Whalen. Also included are eight folders of correspondence between Kyger and Gary Snyder, to whom Kyger was married from 1960 to 1964. The Kyger/Snyder letters range from August 1958 to February 1975, with the bulk of the materials falling between August 1958 and December 1959, the period during which Kyger and Snyder were preparing for their 1960 marriage in Kyoto, Japan. Kyger divorced Snyder in 1964 and married the painter Jack Boyce in 1966. The collection includes much ephemera from the travels of Boyce and Kyger through Europe.
Biography
Joanne Kyger is a West Coast poet who emerged as the Beat movement was beginning to wane in the 1960s. The daughter of Jacob and Anne Kyger, she was born 19 November 1934. Her father's career as a navy officer led to a peripatetic early life: by the time she was fourteen she had lived in Vallejo, Ca. (where she was born), China, Washington, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Illinois. Her father retired in 1949, and the family settled permanently in Santa Barbara, Ca.

Peter Orlovsky
Peter Orlovsky born 8 July 1933
Born in New York in 1933, Peter Orlovsky had a difficult childhood through hardship and his parents' marriage break-up. In 1954, he was drafted into the military as the Korean War began, but his 'unsuitability' of attitude and behaviour meant that army psychiatrists ordered his transfer and he spent the rest of his service working at a San Francisco hospital.
Following his discharge from the army, Orlovsky moved in with San Francisco painter Robert LaVigne as both model and companion. In 1954, Orlovsky was introduced to LaVigne's friend, Allen Ginsberg [pictured right with Orlovsky]. Soon after this introduction the pair became lovers and moved in together. Despite periods of separation, the pair remained committed to one another and the relationship lasted until Ginsberg's death in 1997.
With Ginsberg's encouragement, he began to write poetry in 1957. His relationship with Ginsberg exposed him to many of the creative greats of the time and he travelled the world extensively with, and without, Ginsberg.

This palace was used for rest and meals during stops on the way to Krostadt.
As time passed this palace changed many owners, was neglected for many years and now it has the second birth as State Palace of Congresses of Russian Federation is situated there now. To suit these needs great construction and renovation works were carried on. Two hundred million dollars were spent on this project, six thousands people were occupied with building and projection at the same time. As a result great palace and park ensemble with canals, ponds and grottos was restored and new objects were created.
The Palace of Congresses of the Russian Federation supervises such important objects as the small helidrom in the West Park and the modern Press-Centre based in the restored building of 1960s on the seashore. It transmits news all over the world. The cottage village called "The Consular Village" with comfortable houses is now ready for guests. The new 4-star hotel is opened in the rebuilt building of the Arctic College. The former Stable Building is now adapted for administrative and household needs.
