Born in 1947, James Morrow is a highly significant practitioner of literary SF and Fantasy. His novels and stories are erudite and stylish satires, particularly upon religion; his wit is sometimes hard-edged, sometimes whimsical, but invariably telling. His eight novels are The Wine of Violence The Continent of Lies This Is The Way The World Ends City of Truth (1990, in actuality a long novella, and winner of the Nebula Award), Only Begotten Daughter (1990), and the volumes of The Godhead Trilogy Towing Jehovah Blameless in Abaddon (1996), and

However neither approach examines the consequences of the asymmetries of power and interest that characterize many alliances (Morrow 1991) relying on rather heroic assumptions about symmetries of James D. 1991. Curriculum Vitae Personal Web Site Research Interests: Morrow's research addresses theories of international politics, both the logical development and empirical testing of such theories. He is best known for pioneering the application of noncooperative game theory, drawn from economics, to international politics. His published work covers crisis bargaining, the causes of war, military alliances, arms races, power transition theory, links between international trade and conflict, the role of international institutions, and domestic politics and foreign policy. Morrow's current research addresses the role of selection institutions on domestic and foreign policy and the effects of norms on international politics. The latter project examines the laws of war in detail as an example of such norms. Morrow received the Karl Deutsch Award from the International Studies Association in 1994. He is a member of the editorial boards of the American Political Science Review, International Organization, Journal of Conflict Resolution, the Journal of Politics, and Political Science Quarterly. He served on the National Science Foundation Advisory Panel for Political Science from 1995-1997.

      Interview: James Morrow
      By Faith L. Justice
3 December 2001 A ward-winning author James Morrow takes on the foibles and inconsistencies of Western religion with wit and vigor, holding up a mirror and asking, "How far will we go?" Booklist dubs him a "genius" and compares him to Twain, Heller, and Vonnegut, for bringing much needed humor to this too-serious subject. The science fiction and fantasy community has honored him with two Nebulas (for his 1989 short story "Bible Stories for Adults #17: The Deluge" and 1990 novella " City of Truth ") and a World Fantasy Award (for his 1990 novel Only Begotten Daughter In his most recent work, known collectively as the Godhead Trilogy, Morrow takes us on a tour of a post-theistic world. In Towing Jehovah a disgraced tanker captain seeks redemption by fulfilling a dying angel's request to tow God's immense dead body from the middle of the Atlantic to its final resting place in an Arctic ice cave. In Blameless in Abaddon God's body is discovered and He is posthumously put on trial in the World Court for all the evil He allowed in the world. Morrow's newest novel, The Eternal Footman brings this cycle to a close as people struggle with "death awareness" and the psychic consequences of God's abandonment of humankind.

Life Summary ... Abbreviations MORROW, JAMES (1843-1910), inventor and manufacturer, was born in County Tyrone, Ireland, youngest son of Robert Morrow and his wife Ann, n©e Milligan. The family arrived in Melbourne in 1852 and his father opened a livery stable in Spencer Street. They moved to Fitzroy, where James and his brother Tom attended the Bell Street school and later the famous model school. James was then apprenticed to James Madders, who had a small engineering business in Melbourne. He also met Hugh Lennon Morrow also developed a double-speed reaper, which could be converted into a mower by the operation of a lever, and a combination reaper and horse-works. These and later inventions were patented in the name of James Nicholson, who gave Morrow a portable threshing plant and a team of horses valued at £300. In the industry's off-season Morrow toured the country as a contract thresher which in the late 1860s provided a welcome supplement to his income. In 1883 the Victorian government offered a prize for a successful harvester. Morrow had long been interested in such a machine; he patented a prize-winning stripper with a threshing attachment in August 1883, but the machine was not a combination harvester. Although other patents for harvesters followed that year, the most important was Morrow's patent of a stripper harvester in January 1884. With the same machine he had won £75 in the Dookie field trials in December 1883, and it was in operation two months before
