  • Born: 8 December 1943 Birthplace: Melbourne, Florida Died: 3 July 1971 (heart failure) Best Known As: Lead singer of the band The Doors
Jim Morrison was the lead singer and lyricist for the rock band The Doors, who emerged from the Los Angeles clubs to be one of the top national acts at the close of the 1960s. Morrison's dark and suggestive lyrics were controversial, but his antics on stage were legendary: in 1969 he was arrested for exposing himself to concertgoers in Miami, Florida. His alcohol/drug abuse and open disdain for authority made him a rock hero; his mysterious death in Paris, France at the age of 27 made him a pop culture icon. Morrison was buried at the historic Pere LaChaise cemetery in Paris, where his grave has become a popular destination for rock-n-roll pilgrims... Morrison nicknamed himself "Mr. Mojo Risin'" (an anagram of Jim Morrison) and was also called the Lizard King, a name taken from his poem "The Celebration of the Lizard King," which was included in the 1968 album Waiting For the Sun ADVERTISEMENT Home Business Entertainment Food ... Jim Morrison This following excerpt is from Jennifer Semple Siegel's book, Cherokee, Iowa: Flight (a memoir) The exact timeline of this event is a bit fuzzy, but the actual scene is forever engraved in my head; I believe the event took place some time in December 1968. Stoney, my boyfriend at the time, and I were just hanging out, doing nothing much, when... Oh-my-god! Jim Morrison’s across the street from Wallich’s.

James Douglas 'Jim' Morrison (1943-1971) American rock singer and rock lyric who achieved after his death a cult position among fans. Morrison wished to be accepted as a serious artist, and he published such collections of poetry as An American Prayer (1970) and The Lords and The New Creatures (1971). The song lyrics Morrison wrote for The Doors much reflected the tensions of the time - drug culture, the antiwar movement, avant-garde art. With his early death Morrison has been seen as a voluntary victim of the destructive forces in pop culture. However, he was not ignorat about the consequences of fame and his position as an idol. Morrison once confessed that "We're more interested in the dark side of life, the evil thing, the night time." "This is the end, beautiful friend.
It hurts to set you free,
But you'll never follow me.
The end of laughter and soft lies.

Jim Morrison Biography
Jim Morrison (December 8, 1943 - July 3, 1971) was a singer, songwriter and poet. Born James Douglas Morrison in Melbourne, Florida, he was the lead singer and lyricist of the popular American rock band The Doors. He was also an author of several poetry books.
James Douglas Morrison was the son of George Stephen Morrison and his wife Clara Clark Morrison, both employed by the United States Navy. His father was a strict military officer, who served as an admiral. Jim was raised by his conservative parents but would grow to express drastically different views than those taught to him.
According to Jim Morrison the most important event of his life came in 1947 during a family trip in New Mexico. He described the event as follows:
" The first time I discovered death... me and my mother and father, and my grandmother and grandfather, were driving through the desert at dawn. A truckload of Indians had either hit another car or something- there were Indians scattered all over the highway, bleeding to death. I was just a kid, so I had to stay in the car while my father and grandfather went to check it out. I didn't see nothing- all I saw was funny red paint and people lying around, but I knew something was happening, because I could dig the vibrations of the people around me, and all of a sudden I realized that they didn't know what was happening any more than I did. That was the first time I tasted fear... and I do think, at that moment, the souls of those dead Indians- maybe one or two of them-were just running around, freaking out, and just landed in my soul, and I was like a sponge, ready to sit there and absorb it.

http://www.geocities.com/player2000gi/jim.html
Jim Morrison was born in Florida on December 8th, 1943. His father, a high ranking naval officer, brought up his children under strict discipline and the relationship between the two was problematic. Perhaps because of this, the sensitive child became somewhat withdrawn and isolated. Jim would later express extreme hostility towards his family and the traditional values it stood for. "A friend is someone who lets you have total freedom to be yourself." At the age of four, Jim witnessed a bloody traffic accident that was to have a profound impact on his life. Somewhere between Albuquerque and Santa Fe the Morrison family came across an overturned truck. It had been involved in a collision and its occupants, a group of Indians, were lying on the road, bleeding to death. The horrible event traumatized the young Jim Morrison who believed that the spirit of an Indian, a shaman, had entered his own soul. "The only time I really open up is on stage. I feel spiritual up there... I don't really feel I've done a complete job unless we've gotten everybody in the theatre on common ground." Among Jim's favorite authors was the controversial German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, whose views were opposed to those of tradition and Christianity. In

Executive summary: Lead singer and songwriter, The Doors Born in Melbourne, Florida, to a miltiary family (his father was an Admiral) and its accompanying itinerant lifestyle, Jim Morrison did not take kindly to the strict attitudes imposed upon him by his parents and developed a rebellious and outgoing personality early in life. During his adolescence he found inspiration in the philosophies and unconventional fiction of authors such as Friedrich Nietzsche Arthur Rimbaud and James Joyce , and throughout his teen years he kept active writing prose and poetry of his own. After high school Morrison spent two years studying theater and philosophy at Florida State University, but ultimately decided to relocate to Los Angeles in order to enroll in the film department at UCLA, where he immersed himself in the emerging hippy culture that was prevalent in and around Venice Beach. It was on Venice Beach that Morrison first showed his poetry to struggling musician and fellow student Ray Manzarek ; Manzarek was impressed and immediately suggested that they create a band together. Not long afterwards guitarist
