"Of the great classic fantasy series, it's the one that hasn't been done yet," Chris Weitz told Empire Online. "My brother, Paul, and I liked those books growing up, and we've met Michael Moorcock, and he trusts us to take those books forward."
The Weitz brothers' Depth of Field production company will develop the adaptation, although no director is yet attached. "I'd really like it if my brother directed them," Chris said. A long interview about THE DREAMTHIEF'S DAUGHTER done by Richard Klaw on Sci Fi Weekly

STRANGE CONNECTIONS - AN INTERVIEW WITH MICHAEL MOORCOCK

"Anyone the current U.S. administration is unhappy with, usually because their own trade interests or domestic vote is threatened, they characterise as 'evil', wickedly planning to manufacture nuclear bombs or, if that is patently ludicrous, bio-weapons, aimed at attacking the US." Richard Marshall interviews Michael Moorcock
AM: You have always worked in journals as well as written novels. So what are the trends you identify as important in both journal fiction and novels? MM: I began as a journalist and am at heart a journalist, I think. I still do journalism, mostly for weekly periodicals, but not as much as I did. One of the last pieces I did was a Spectator Diary telling people not to judge Americans stereotypically, and suggesting that Blair's neocolonialism was inspired by Warlord of the Airl! But I blotted my copybook there by speaking up for Andrea Dworkin , whom Conrad Black, the proprietor, is afraid of.

For ten thousand years Melniboné ruled the world. Elric, the 428th Emperor, seemed destined to see that era come to an end. An albino, sustained by rare drugs, it fell to him to confront the rise of the Young Kingdoms, of the monsters and sorceries which were threatening to overwhelm him and his ancient crown.
From the back cover of the Berkley edition:
One awesome hero against the inevitable dawn of time. In the Ancient land of sorcerous Melniboné, Elric sits upon the Ruby Throne. An albino kept alive by drugs and magic, he is cursed with a keen and cynical intelligence that forces him onto a path few would take willingly eternal adventure. From the back cover of the Arrow UK edition: Melniboné: no longer the mighty empire that once dominated the world but a waning kingdom, dependent on trade from the human nations which have begun to challenge her power.

Contact Us City of the Beast By Michael Moorcock A Review by Ryan Harvey City of the Beast by Michael Moorcock Planet Stories (160 pages, September 2007, $12.99) “I enjoyed it enormously. It was kind of a holiday for me,” Michael Moorcock once remarked about writing the “Kane of Old Mars” series. Reading the first of these novels, City of the Beast , is exactly like taking that holiday with Mr. Moorcock. Imagine chucking all your possession so you can buy a fancy red convertible and then tearing out to Florida without a care in the world. That’s City of the Beast . It has that “hell with it, let’s go for a ride!” feel. The book is a rare case of genuine escapism, and one of few times I can use the word “escapism” without thinking that I am ducking my responsibilities as a reviewer. The hero of City of the Beast and the two following novels ( Lord of the Spiders and Masters of the Pit ) is the valiant Michael Kane. Kane is an incarnation of Moorcock’s Eternal Champion, but readers do not need to know anything about this overarching concept to enjoy the book. Kane’s science-fantasy adventures on a quaintly impossible Mars unabashedly imitate Edgar Rice Burroughs’ tales of John Carter, with dashes of other early pioneers of scientific romance like Leigh Brackett.

British author/editor/critic/musician Michael Moorcock is probably as close to being a legend in the sf/f field as one can get while still breathing. In 1956, aged 16, he became editor of Tarzan Adventures . According to the Moorcockian mythos he lost that job for attempting to publish more prose than deemed necessary in a supposedly comic magazine. While editing other commercial magazines he began selling genre stories and by 1961 had created the "multiverse" and the character of the Eternal Champion.
As editor of "New Worlds" magazine (beginning in 1964) Moorcock published fiction that pulled SF out of its shiny spaces ships and directed it toward what was sometimes termed the "new wave". Moorcock and his co-conspirators posited post-modernism long before it had a name. He received the BSFA Award in 1966 for his work on "New Worlds".
The legend is further burnished by connection with music through his own band, The Deep Fix, the British group Hawkwind, and Blue Oyster Cult.
Moorcock was inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame in 2002. He has been honored with two Lifetime Achievement Awards: The World Fantasy Award in 2000 and the Prix Utopiales, in Nantes, France, in 2004. He was recently designated at this year's recipient of the Horror Writers Association's Lifetime Achievement Award.

A Few Words About Michael Moorcock
[Discussion: tba]
Notable Science-Fiction and Fantasy Books by Michael Moorcock ***/**
Michael Moorcock is a special case in these listings. Moorcock has by now written something approaching a hundred books, mostly science fiction or fantasy; I would guess that over the years I have read about one-fifth of his fiction output, and have kept very little of it, so I do not feel qualified to set forth a selected list. I offer instead a few comments. Moorcock seems to me an author capable of high-quality work who has elected, for whatever reasons (but likely financial ones), to substitute quantity for that quality. He is good enough that even his potboilers are passable reading, and the situation is exacerbated by the fact that his quirkiness has caused a devoted cult of followers, whoin my opinionmistake originality for quality, to arise. What some will pay to read, others will write. I do not criticize Mr. Moorcock's choice: it's his life and I can sympathize deeply with a desire to lead life with as few distractionslike making moneyas possible; it's a shame that Moorcock's real abilities get so few chances to show themselves, but there it is. I do criticize Moorcock's work; though it is hard to generalize about so long a list, I would say that his

Collected for the first time, eleven tales of Sir Seaton Begg vs. Count Zodiac, including the never before seen “The Flaneur of the Arcades d'Opera.” Seaton Begg and his constant companion, pathologist Dr “Taffy” Sinclair, both head the secret British Home Office section of the Metatemporal Investigation Department — an organization whose function is understood only by the most high-ranking government people around the world — and a number of powerful criminals.
Begg's cases cover a multitude of crimes in dozens of alternate worlds, generally where transport is run by electricity, where the internal combustion engine is unknown, and where giant airships are the chief form of international carrier. He investigates the murder of English Prime Minister “Lady Ratchet,” the kidnaping of the king of a country taken over by a totalitarian regime, and the death of Geli Raubel, Adolf Hitler's mistress. Other adventures take him to a wild west where “the Masked Buckaroo” is tracking down a mysterious red-eyed Apache known as the White Wolf; to 1960s’ Chicago where a girl has been killed in a sordid disco; and to an independent state of Texas controlled by neocon Christians with oily (and bloody) hands. He visits Paris, where he links up with his French colleagues of the Sûreté du Temps Perdu.

A city at the heart of the Multiverse is familiar territory to Michael Moorcock's readers, but is now the setting to a novel by the creators of Elric and Wraeththu.
The city is split into quarters ruled over by the noble houses of Gold, Silver, Iron, Lead and Copper, as well as a free zone. Karadur is a city of steam-driven dogs, mechanical militia, and only occasional glimpses of magic. It is a city ruled over by a static oligarchy who have not changed their attitudes for centuries, even as the world is covered by glaciers which creep inexorably, day by day, toward the city. To regular readers of Michael Moorcock Wraeththu fame.
