ROLLER COASTER HOLIDAY is an extended version of the band's 1975 album NEW WORLD'S FAIR, containing alternate mixes, instrumentals, and demos. Tracks like "Sixteen Year Old Doom," "Candy Floss Cowboy," and "Starcruiser" are reminiscent of MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD-era David Bowie, while the album's personnel list contains many Hawkwind alumni, making this a must for fans of early-'70s British psychedelia.

Introduction to the Adventures of
Luther Arkwright
There's something solid and Northern English
about a name like Arkwright
It suggests a man with his feet on the ground, prepared to look facts in the face and to do something about them if he has to. Luther, on the other hand, suggests a foreign quality, even a exotic, slightly visionary tinge which would once have been a little disturbing to the average inhabitant of the Lancashire mill towns. Nowadays, of course, those old weaving towns, which gave the Northern industrial landscape its character, no longer have the same stereotypical image. Be-shawled and be- clogged, shuffling at dawn over the hard cobbles to the factory gates, the workers were the epitome of ground-down wage-slaves. They took the brunt of the "Hungry Thirties." Nowadays, when they have jobs at all, the workers are much more exotic. They may well still be the epitome of wage slavery, but they wear saris and turbans, and many speak Bengali as their first language. Even Mr. Gradgrind the mill owner is probably now called Mrs. Patel. The average inhabitant of the mill towns is as likely to worship at a mosque or a Hindu temple and still think of the Indian sub-continent as the motherland. The British Empire, in miniature, came home. Britain went from being the hub of the largest and most widespread imperium the world had ever known to a small, crowded nation that had become, almost overnight, multi-ethnic. It was a bit of a shock to the average native.

London Bone
a novelette by Michael Moorcock For Ronnie Scott ONE M y name is Raymond Gold and I'm a well-known dealer. I was born too many years ago in Upper Street, Islington. Everybody reckons me in the London markets and I have a good reputation in Manchester and the provinces. I have bought and sold, been the middleman, an agent, an art representative, a professional mentor, a tour guide, a spiritual bridge-builder. These days I call myself a cultural speculator. But, you won't like it, the more familiar word for my profession, as I practised it until recently, is scalper. This kind of language is just another way of isolating the small businessman and making what he does seem sleazy while the stockbroker dealing in millions is supposed to be legitimate. But I don't need to convince anyone today that there's no sodding justice. 'Scalping' is risky. What you do is invest in tickets on spec and hope to make a timely sale when the market for them hits zenith. Any kind of ticket, really, but mostly shows. I've never seen anything offensive about getting the maximum possible profit out of an American matron with more money than sense who's anxious to report home with the right items ticked off the beento list. We've all seen them rushing about in their overpriced limos and mini-buses, pretending to be individuals:

"The White Wolf's Son: The Albino in the Middle March"
(Reviewed by Cindy Lynn Speer OCT 30, 2005) "MY NAME IS Oonagh, granddaughter of the Countess Oona von Bek. This is my story of Elric, the White Wolf, and Onric, the White Wolf’s son, of a talking beast in the World Below, of the League of Temporal Adventurers, the Knights of the Balance and those who serve the world; of the wonders and terrors I experienced as the forces of Law and Chaos sought the power of the Black Sword, found the source of Hell and the San Grael. All this happened several years ago, when I was still a child. It is only now that I feel able to tell my story." This book ties up the trilogy that began with

Michael Moorcock on Watchmen
At the end of 2006 - in the occasion of its 20th anniversary - I edited an Italian Watchmen tribute book which was basically a collection of 12 brand new essays Lavieri , a small Italian publisher, with all net profits to be donated to AIMA , the Italian Alzheimer organization.
Legendary writer Michael Moorcock wrote the introduction and now, for the first time, he gives his permission to show here the original English version. Enjoy! And thanks to Mr. Moorcock of course!

The Edge Index Bug Jack Barron By Norman Spinrad An introduction by Michael Moorcock August, 1967. Milford, Pennsylvania. Damon Knight’s Gothic manse A ringer for the Pyscho house.) I’m attending a writers conference, my first and last writers’ workshop. I’m representing New Worlds and what will be called (never by us) the ‘New Wave’. Knight, who, as a paperback editor, has published several Ballard originals, as well as work by me, Disch and other ambitious writers of the day, is publishing many of the same writers in his Orbit anthology series. Judith Merrill, anthologist and critic, is our greatest publicist in the USA, championing Ballard in particular. New Worlds Ellison’s in his own Golden Age, riding high and boiling with attitude, turning out lippy eloquent hits like Repent, Harlequin, Said the Ticktock Man. He and the equally height-challenged Spinrad make natural comrades, full of the mouth that made Warner Brothers gangsters the only kind you ever wanted to be. Can’t keep it shut. Cagney and Tracey. Always in trouble. (Leigh Brackett once laughed when I suggested the snappy villain in her Elliott Gould Long Goodbye was based on her friend Harlan. It could easily have been, she said.) The stately, amiable Disch has completed his

Yoshitaka Amano
by Michael Moorcock I first became aware of Yoshitaka Amano's work in the early 1980s when he was illustrating and painting the covers for my own Elric books and the Japanese version of Behold the Man . I loved his work, and thought that he, of all artists, had managed to capture the essential spirit of my characters. Many other fine artists, such as James Cawthorn, Michael Whelan, and Robert Gould had depicted them, and I certainly should not wish to minimise their work, but for me Amano captured something no other artist had seen.
Michael Moorcock I began to buy books of his work, and was astonished at their variety and beauty. When a company produced a model kit based on one of his Elric paintings, it was the only representation of this character of mine I felt worthy to keep amongst my collection of original Art Nouveau and Art Deco figurines. My only hope is that one day some artist feels an urge to make it in ivory, silver, and brass. It deserves that kind of permanence. At some stage in the post-war period Japanese painters and writers began to rediscover or re-invent their own culture. Yoshitaka Amano is one of the vanguard Japanese artists bringing a wholly fresh and ethereal sense of wonder to his world. In conjunction with my work he has made something far greater than the original.
