Average rating: Starring: Romain Duris Fabrice Luchini Laura Morante Ludivine Sagnier Director: Laurent Tirard Studio: PATHE Run time: 120 mins Collections: 100 Most Wanted New releases Genres: Drama World Cinema Languages: French Released: November 12, 2007 1644, Paris, and 22-year-old Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, also known as Molière, is not yet the writer that history recognizes as the father and true master of comic satire, author of The Misanthrope and Tartuffe, and a dramatist to rank alongside Shakespeare and Sophocles. Far from it. He is, in fact, a failed actor.
His Illustrious Theatre Troupe, founded the previous year, is bankrupt. Hounded by creditors, Molière is thrown into jail, released, then swiftly imprisoned again. When the jailors finally let him go, he disappears. The combined efforts of historians have unearthed no trace of him before his reappearance, several months later, when his troupe begins touring the provinces - a tour that will last for thirteen years, and culminate in Molière's triumphant return to Paris in 1658.

Although it dates from around 1990, this hotel gives the distinct impression that it's one of the solidly established old-timers in a town loaded with venerable competitors. The hotel lies just 100m (328 ft.) from the Croisette; your approach will be through a long, verdant garden studded with cypresses and flowering shrubs, in which tables and chairs are set out for gossip and contemplation. The neighborhood it occupies is quieter than you expect, just behind both the Noga Hilton and the Carlton. Bedrooms are outfitted with lots of fabric, in tones of champagne, pink, and, in some cases, teal blue, giving an overall impression of well-upholstered comfort without a lot of decorative flair. Staff works hard and is generally polite and cooperative. Facilities:

Watch trailer In 1645, the French playwright and actor Jean-Baptiste Poquelin better known as Moli¨re mysteriously disappeared for several weeks, and this lavish comedy drama imagines a scenario that could explain what may have happened to him. At this time, Moli¨re ( Romain Duris ) is touring the French countryside with his traveling theater company, and he's yet to be recognized as one of the continent's great authors (or achieve significant financial success). Moli¨re is put in jail after skipping out on some unpaid debts, but is freed after his fine is paid by two strangers. Moli¨re discovers his benefactors are acting on behalf of Jourdain ( Fabrice Luchini ), a very wealthy man who has a beautiful wife, Elmire (
