The Ultimate RAB book list
This represents a summary of all books recommended, mostly in rec.arts.books, that I've saved the recommendation for. The list spans three years, and includes other book lists. The listings span the range from banned (or attempts made) books to those recommended for children, current bedside reading to books that changed someone's life. The only consistent feature of the books on this list is that someone posted on the net that they recommended it for some purpose. Almost all of the books present are ones I haven't read (which is probably what prompted me to save the note!) and some are books I've read and didn't like much. But, since others do, they're here. The list is somewhere over 1250 books long. You should be able to find something interesting here. Authors A-F

http://clcwebjournal.lib.purdue.edu/library/totosy(comparativeliterature98).html Purdue University Press CHAPTER ONE Literature and Cultural Participation In my first set of applications of the proposed framework and method for a New Comparative Literature, I will discuss literary readership and the question of the literary canon in a context of cultural participation. Subsequently, I will focus on an element of a theory of cumulative canon formation with reference to literary journals and magazines in Canada and in Hungary. In the last two applications, I will discuss reading, readership, and cultural participation in the context of ethnic minority writing in Canada and the question of authorial voice and the reading of pornographic literature. According to Itamar Even-Zohar, A 'canonized' means those literary norms and works (i.e., both models and texts) which are accepted as legitimate by the dominant circles within a culture and whose conspicuous products are preserved by the community to become part of its historical heritage (15). In English-Canadian scholarship, validation in canon formation, or the question of literary value as a determining factor of the canon, is also prevalent. Lawrence Matthews, for example C in one of the principal works published recently on the question of canon in English-Canadian literaure, in Robert Lecker's edited volume, Canadian Canons: Essays in Literary Value
