A children's book character that endures seventy-seven years must be something special; and Winnie-the-Pooh certainly is. A.A. Milne actually only published two books based on Winnie and his beloved friends, but they have since been featured in dozens of movies, videos, easy-reader books, and even have their own attractions at Disneyland and Disney World. Here's where you can find the hundred-acre- woods gang online.

A.A. Milne's characters are famous around the world. Walt Disney made them into movie stars. One of the reasons that the movies are so special is that they stick very close to Milne's books.
If you are a fan of the movies then check out The House At Pooh Corner and see how much of the text you already have memorized. They are filled with funny situations, friends that care about each other and interesting language. His books are special to both children and adults.
His two poetry books are When We Were Very Young and Now We Are Six. Many of the poems are very funny. They are tough for young children to read. One problem seems to be that they are always printed in the small type commonly used in all books during the 1920's. Hey parents - they are perfect read-alouds! Lots of fun to read and discuss.

In this definitive work, biographer and children’s author Ann Thwaite traces A.A. Milne from his birth in 1882 through a rather traditional upbringing into adulthood. For a brief period, he was one of England’s most successful playwrights. But Milne’s novels, plays, and essays were eclipsed by his four major books for children (WHEN WE WERE VERY YOUNG, NOW WE ARE SIX, WINNIE-THE-POOH, and THE HOUSE ON POOH CORNER), which distressed him greatly. After the children’s books were published in the 1920’s, Milne’s work for adults was essentially ignored, and he grew bitter. In later years, however, Milne gained perspective. In 1952, shortly before the stroke that made him an invalid until his death in 1956, he wrote, “There was an intermediate period when any reference to him [Pooh] was infuriating; but now such a ‘nice comfortable feeling’ envelops him that I can almost regard him impersonally as the creation of one of my own favourite authors.” Milne remains a favorite author of millions, young and old. His books have been translated into twenty-five languages, strong support for Thwaite’s conclusion that there are no better stories for reading aloud, for finding one’s way back to the world of childhood.
